Course Description
Advanced English Grammar is the last English Grammar series which is intended to
reinforce students Grammar mastery at the highest level for both receptive and
productive skills needed for both presenting high-school (SMU) structure materials
and coping with their studies. The materials range from the use of authentic materials
to the analysis of advanced grammar exercises taken from international standardized

tests (TOEIC, TOEFL, etc.) in terms of grammar uses.
Learning Outcome
After completing all required lectures, actively participating in discussion, and
completing all the assigned tasks, the learners are expected to be able to analyze
various advanced uses of English Grammar as used in international standardized tests
and in authentic discourses.
Learning Objectives
To achieve the LO above, the Learning Objectives of this course are:
1. To use various word classes in English correctly.
2. To use troublesome words in English grammar correctly.
3. To analyze clause elements in simple sentences.
4. To apply gerund and infinitive phrases correctly
5. To analyze clause elements in compound sentences
6. To analyze elements and meanings of Adjective Clauses in complex sentences.
7. To analyze elements and meanings of Adverbial Clauses in complex sentences.
8. To analyze elements and meanings of Noun Clauses in complex sentences.
Materials
Most of the concepts of English Grammar have been discussed in English Grammar
series (EG 1, 2, 3). Therefore, this subject will mostly review the concepts with the
emphases on advanced analyses, especially the ones commonly tested on the

international standardized test (TOEIC, TOEFL, TWE, etc.) and used in authentic
discourses (newspaper, magazine, online media, brochures, etc.). The materials cover:
1. Word classes
2. Troublesome words
3. Simple sentences
4. Gerund and infinitive phrases
5. Compound sentences
6. Adjective clauses in complex sentences

Method
The teaching and learning process will follow the government regulation “Standar
Nasional Pendidikan Tinggi (SN-DIKTI) on students’ workload for 1 credit. [It is
stated that learning workload for 1 credit (sks) is 170 minutes consisting of 50
minutes for class meeting, 50 minutes for structured assignment, and 60 for
independent study]. It means that, in addition to class meetings, there will be
intensive and intensive assignments and independent study. The assignments and
independent study will be facilitated in e-learning on e-fkip.unram.ac.id
The methods used in class meetings are Problem-based Learning, Discussion (group
and class), Discovery Learning, etc.
Assessment
The assessment of this subject will be based on students’ performances on:
 Short assignment and quizzes (20%)
 Major assignment (30%).
 Tests (50%)
