PROPOSAL
3rdSeminar on Ecology, Sanitation and Integrated Water
Resources Management (ESIWRM :Towards Asean
Economic Community (AEC/MEA)

Preface
The Developing countries are part of making conserve water resources, ecological
sanitation and currently the role of are still far from the expected. In the field of
sanitation and also conservation ecology, most of developing countries holds the
title ofthe worst. These conditions require a concerted effort among us to

consolidate and intensive discussion to find the causes. This is manifested in the
form of the first International Seminar to be attended by most of AEC countries in
the world to share knowledge and experience.
The Seminar will organizeby entitle "Ecology, sanitation, and water resources
management in society - how can we sustainably embed ecology, sanitation, and
water resources management in social, economic and renewable energy?". It
aims to facilitate discussion on promoting sustainable ecology in a society by
introducing Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). About 100
representatives come various background agencies such as: government agencies,
researchers, universities and national and international NGO from developing and
developed countries in the world will attend in this Seminar.
With 2.5 billion people lacking access to adequate and sustainable sanitation, an
integrated approach, involving ESIWRM as an essential component, is needed to
enhance advocacy and public awareness. Sanitation should be treated as an
essential development sector that has the potential to bring huge social and
economic and ecology benefits. In addition, clear strategic sanitation policy and
its plans should be formulated and integrated into the IWRM programs. To
achieve sustainable sanitation and ecology, sanitation will have to be embedded in
social, economic, cultural systems and ecology, supported by effective and
sustainable investment, data collection, technology, behavior change and

leadership.
The other sessions of the Conference will discuss the issues of sanitation
technology and financing and ecology. Various sanitation technologies and
financing instruments which are adapted to the region will be presented and
discussed. Participants to the Conference share their experiences in enhancing
investment by central government, cost recovery, removing the barrier of
enhancing sanitation by private sector participation and promotion of investment
by household and community.

Background
Despite the demographic bonus of a young population, Indonesia’s tens of
millions of workers are mostly low-skilled. The country needs to address this
quickly before the surge of regional foreign talent into the country once the Asean
Economic Community (AEC) starts to take full effect.
A recent World Economic Forum (WEF) report on global competitiveness, which
provides an index and overview of the competitiveness performance of 144
economies, placed Indonesia 34th in its ranking. Thailand and Malaysia ranked
higher at numbers 31 and 20 respectively, while Singapore is the second most

competitive economy in the world after Switzerland, according to the report. (See:
Who is the most competitive of them all in Asean?)
A 2014 global talent competitiveness index released by Insead was more
alarming. Indonesia was ranked 86 out of 93 countries for the competitiveness of
its talent, while Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia and of course
Singapore all ranked higher and were deemed more competitive than Indonesia.
The lack of talent and skill among workers is something that Indonesia is well
aware of. On international Labour Day on May 1, when tens of thousands of
workers rallied in various cities across the country, the Indonesian Labour
Struggle Federation (FPBI) revealed its concerns about the looming AEC, which it
says will only disadvantage Indonesian workers, and also called on the
government to give more attention and protection towards the country’s workers.

To support that The Asean Economic Community (AEC/MEA) target , some of
the natural resources must be manage good well. Part of the natural resources has
been going such as Ecology, sanitation, and water resources management in
society - how can we sustainably embed ecology, sanitation, and water resources
management in social, economic and renewable energy must be facilitate.
Though many efforts have been undertaken and the number of people with access
to basic sanitation facilities has risen rapidly especially in east Asia, there is still a
lack of proper sanitation and hygiene practice, with approximately 1.8 million

children dying each year due to unclean water. Water and sanitation are closely
related to other issues, such as poverty, health, education, and gender, where
progress is needed to achieve sustainable development. Behavioral change and
developing clean and safe sanitation facilities are crucial for maternal and child
health.
Based on this background, the Faculty of Science and Technology UIN Jakarta
launched the ESIWRM for the Developing Countries in 2015 to cope with
sanitation, ecological and eater management issues to helping developing
countries open debates for better on ESIWRM.

All papers for the ESIWRM 2015 will be publish in the International Journal of
Ecological (ISSN: …….), and all papers will be included in the Engineering &
Technology Digital Library, and indexed by EBSCO, WorldCat, DOAJ, Google
Scholar, Cross ref, ProQuest and sent to be reviewed by EiCompendex and ISI
Proceedings.
One Excellent Paper will be selected from each oral session. The Certificate
for Excellent Papers will be awarded in the Welcome Banquet on October 25,
2015.
