BENTUK PASSIVE
A. V + ED yang berarti perbuatan
Bentuk pasif yang paling sederhana salah
satunya TO BE ( am, is, are, was, were, be,
been, being) + PAST PARTICIPLE.
Contoh
Kalimat pasif
Positif (+) The patient is taken to hospital
Negatif (-) The patient was not taken to
hospital
Bentuk pasif banyak dipakai dalam
karangan ilmiah bila
1. Peristiwa atau perbuatan
dianggap lebih penting daripada
perbuatan itu sendiri karena
pelaku tidak memberikan
keterangan baru.
CONTOH:

Kalimat pasif.
(+) The neccssary data are analysed.
(-)
The neccssary data are not analysed.
2. Untuk menghindarkan penonjolan diri penulis
karangan supaya lebih bersikap objektif.

B. V + ED YANG BERARTI KEADAAN
Bentuk kata kerja TO BE + V-ED yang kita kenal sebagai
bentuk pasif tidak selalu menunjukan sebuah perbuatan.
Bentuk ini dapat juga dipakai untuk menunjukan
KEADAAN atau KONDISI.
CONTOH
All the passengers are tired after the
journey. (Semua penumpang letih setelah
perjalanan)
The small child is already bored with his
new toy. (Anak keil itu sudah bosan dengan
permainannya yang baru)
Arti dari bentuk TO BE + V-ED hanya
dapat
ditentukan
dari
hubungan
kalimat.Di dalam sebuah teks kita
harus mempelajari hubungan kalimat
yang satu dengan yang lain dulu
sebelum menentukan apakah bentuk
kata kerja TO BE + V-ED itu mempunyai
arti perbuatan atau keadaan.
CONTOH
When we returned home, we saw that the front door was opened. (keadaan)
The door was opened by a thief by force. (perbuatan)
It was not opened with a key. (perbuatan)
The food is prepared by the servant. (perbuatan)
We are prepared to listen to you. (keadaan)
