The soldiers at Scutari loved Florence Nightingale and called her “The Lady with the lamp”. Soon, she was famous in Britain and all over the world. She died on 13 August 1910.
In October 1854, when she was 34 years old, Florence and 37 other nurses travelled to the hospital in Scutari, in the Crimea. There were a lot of works to do, but they worked very hard. After six months, the conditions in the hospital were very different. The hospital was clean, and there were toilets, clean clothes and food for soldiers.
Florence Nightingale was born on 12 May 1820. When she was a girl, she studied History and Science. She was a good speaker of French, German and Italian, and she often visited other countries.
