Abstract
Polyol is a chernicalcompoundthat containsmany hydroxyl groups.Polyol can be made from
petroleum, neverthelesspetroleum'sprice is increasinglyhigh ancl petroleum itself is a ltonrenewableresource,so it rnay be gone someday.Alternatively, synthesisof polyol can use other
materialthat is renewable,in caseit can usewastefrornedibleoil.
In experiment, polyol is made liom edible oil waste(usedpalm cooking oil) throughozonolysis
reaction.Besideozone,as reactantare also useda mixtureof rnethanol, isopropanoland water in
certainratio and sulphuricacid as catalyst.Mechanismof reactionwill startat ozoneattackand

fatty acid in the waste, and then hydroxyl groupsof
