Abstract
Ba ckg rou nd : One of keys t o success during adolescence is det erm ined by t he
educa- t ional achievem ent s. Post - secondary st udent s t end t o find ways and reasons
t o be m or e advanced and m ot ivat ed obt aining bet t er achievem ent t han before. At
t ert iary level educat ion including universit y, assessm ent of academ ic achievem ent s
is expressed by Grade Point Average ( GPA) . Achieving cum laude t it le when
graduat ed from a universit y which requires a final GPA of above 3,50 is desirable by
m any st udent s. This st udy aim t o evaluat e t he difference of anxiet y levels am ong
undergr aduat e st udent s at final year wit h GPA below 3,50 and above 3,50 t o
achieve cum laude t it le.
M e t ho ds: The st udy was an analyt ical observat ional st udy using cross- sect ional
design , held in July 2012 at Facult y of Medicine, Sebelas Maret Universit y,
Surakart a. Sam ples were select ed using purposive sam pling m et hod. Sam ples w er e
t hen asked t o fill in: ( 1) Cur riculum vit ae form , ( 2) L- MMPI quest ionnaire ( t o
evaluat e t heir t hrut hfulness in answering quest ionnaires) , ( 3) T- MAS quest ionnaire
( t o m easure anxiet y scores) . Dat a were analyzed by Kolm ogorov- Sm irnov norm alit y
t est and t he independent t - t est using SPSS 17,0 for Windows.
Re sult s: Sixt y- six m edical st udent s part icipat ed in t his st udy. The m ean anxiet y
scor es of st udent s wit h GPA below 3,50 was 21,51 ± 6,87, as for t hose w it h GPA
above 3,50 w as 18,65 ± 4,77 . Result from independen t t - t est showed no
st at ist ically significant differ ence of anxiet y scores bet w een t he t wo groups ( p =
0,118 ) .
