ABSTRACT

The user needs to access the network in the digital age society as it is today, demanding operator stackholderseluler and all concerned in it to provide services that can be accessed by users with high speed access anywhere and anytime. The more users that access will decrease the quality of the signal obtained by each because it is a trade off between capacity and quality. The solution to this problem is to use a radio over fiber technology which is the convergence of two technologies namely radio technology and radio over fiber technology, so that the user mobility that is the advantage of radio technology accommodated and also communication fiber will produce a small attenuation and high bit rate, so the user is getting a lot of good signal quality can still be obtained. Most effective factor of the problems leading to degradation in the performance of Radio Over Fiber is the attenuation and dispersion performance, also the other thing is when increasing the number of users. Power degradation problems can be solved with EDFA and dispersion problems can be overcome by using DCF. In this thesis has been carried out simulations using optisystem the first experiment simulating RoSMF without doing a performance improvement with a bit rate of 1 Gbps and laser power of 0 dBm. Determination of the maximum distance fiber must meet four requirements ie Q factor maximum, minimum BER, the link power budget and system margin. Stage then performed simulations using EDFA performance improvement starts with a distance where RoSMF experienced a drop below the standard requirements. Performance improvement by using EDFA experienced a drop at a certain distance so that the last stage of repairs perfomansi using DCF three schemes, namely POST DCF, PRE Symmetrical DCF and DCF, which in turn will get the maximum distance fiber that meets four requirements. RoSMF without using performance improvement is more appropriately used for distances that are closer, in this experiment the maximum distance for RoSMF without the use of performance is at 85 km with a maximum Q factor of 6.58716 and a minimum BER of 1.7353E-011 with acceptance - 17 dBm and system margins by 6 dB. For optimal use at close range over a distance of less than 85 km. For a medium range where

RoSMF who do not use performance improvement has experienced a drop then the performance improvement by using EDFA can be an alternative to improve performance, compared with RoSMF without EDFA performance improvements can still be optimum at a distance of 86 km to 118 km, with a maximum of Q factor at 118 km at 6.54466 and the minimum BER of 2.68866E-11 with large received power -7.6 dBm and 15.5 dB system margin. Changes in the value of variable gain EDFA not affect the maximum change in a variable Q factor and a particular EDFA Q factor run into saturation. For longer distances than the second condition it is more appropriate when used DCF. In this study, the DCF is used with first priority is symmetrical DCF, DCF POST second, and the third is the PRE DCF seen from the maximum Q factor and minimum BER. Within the same transmission, the length of DCF and SMF will be worth the same three including a link power budget will be worth the same but the maximum yield Q factor and BER will be worth different. POST DCF capable of optimally at distances where the EDFA is dropped at a distance of 119 km, the distance range DCF POST exist at a distance of 119 km to 211 km with a maximum value of Q factor of 10 634 and the minimum BER of 5.63073E-27. Acceptance of -16.8312 dBm and 6.1688 dB system margin. PRE DCF at a distance of 119 km is under the standard of performance that is not recommended in these experiments to be used as an EDFA performance improvement where it is dropped. PRE DCF will be optimal at a distance of 129 km to 211 km. Symmetrical optimal DCF at a distance of 119 km to 211 km, able to overcome the mengalmi EDFA drop at a distance of 118 km. acceptability and system margin is equal to the POST DCF.
