Speaker’s Introduction
Robi Kurniawan was born 30 years ago in the city of Pekanbaru. Growing up as the second
child (but the oldest son out of three siblings) from a farmer father and a housewife mother
has taught Robi a lot of things including humbleness, simplicity, and perseverance. “You
earn what you work for,” his father always reminded him.

follow her sister’s footstep as a teacher. He enrolled in English Education undergraduate
degree program where he became one of the most outstanding students and had a chance
to study Intensive English at the University of South Carolina in 2009.
In 2013, after completing his undergraduate degree, Robi received Fulbright scholarship to
pursue his Master’s degree at Central Michigan University.
