Speaker’s Introduction
Robi Kurniawan was born 30 years ago in the city of Pekanbaru. Growing up as the second
child (but the oldest son out of three siblings) from a farmer father and a housewife mother
has taught Robi a lot of things including humbleness, simplicity, and perseverance. “You
earn what you work for,” his father always reminded him.
Spending his childhood until his teenage life a small district of Rumbai, Robi was inspired to
follow her sister’s footstep as a teacher. He enrolled in English Education undergraduate
degree program where he became one of the most outstanding students and had a chance
to study Intensive English at the University of South Carolina in 2009.
In 2013, after completing his undergraduate degree, Robi received Fulbright scholarship to
pursue his Master’s degree at Central Michigan University.

General Requirement
Be an Indonesian citizen and not a permanent resident or citizen of the U.S., or be currently living in the U.S.
Possess leadership
qualities and show experience in community service
A good understanding of
Indonesian and international cultures
Have preparation in, and a demonstrated commitment to, her or his chosen field of study
Demonstrate that she/he can realistically accomplish full-time
Not be receiving another scholarship
Demonstrate a strong commitment to return
graduate study or conduct research in the United States
at the time of the Fulbright scholarship application
to Indonesia upon completion of the Fulbright scholarship program
How to Apply
Completed application form. This includes a clearly written and concise one
page study objective.
Copy of your most recent, less than two year old, ITP TOEFL or IBT TOEFL or
IELTS score report.
Two letters of reference, from a lecturer/professor and work supervisor who
know you well.
Copy of academic transcript (English translation).
