Review "I finished part one of Shearwater under a little less than 13 hours. I can't believe it either! It's just so good. The prologue in Shearwater drew me to the characters and into the story. There is enough mystery in this book to keep you keen but not make you confused. You do not need to worry about clichés, cause gurrrlll, this book exceeds my expectations. You have NO idea. I'm going to be bold here and say that this might be one of my favourite reads in 2016." -Unfathomable Reads ★★★★★ "Greatly captivating and wonderfully written!" -Megan W. ★★★★★ "Beautifully written and gripping. I'm thoroughly impressed." -Sandra Easter ★★★★★ "Shearwater takes Twilight to the sea, with a shape shifting merman battling forbidden love and a cult that seeks his blood for power." -Chris Maloney ★★★★★ "The heroine is sympathetic and yet realistic, the paranormal elements spooky, well-thought out and well- salted in. I liked the romance sub-plot because there are a number of potential love interests and it's impossible to know which one she'll end up with. That adds another level of intrigue to an already mysterious storyline. The whole thing has an otherworldly feel, yet is grounded in a very real high school environment." -Gina Grant "Irish mythology was something refreshing and new to me, and it completely submerged me as we gradually learned more about it. When it comes to the concept of the mermaids, Murphy kept it unique. He gives them their own world, their own bodies and own features. It was all so well planned and done that it made me happy just reading about it." -Olivia Roach EXCERPT I dreamt that I was floating across the ocean in a crystal sphere. The sound of the ocean grew louder, until it surrounded me, and I felt myself sinking deeper and deeper into it, until the surface was so far above me the light couldn't find me anymore. The waves pounding against the shore were in perfect sync with my heartbeat. I felt a chill and reached to pull my blanket up to cover me, but my fingers grasped at emptiness--it wasn't there. Nor was my bed.

I opened my eyes frantically and gasped--I was standing in my pajamas at the very edge of a cliff, the white, foamy waves crashed against the rocks hundreds of feet below me. A sudden wind pushed me off balance, and for a second I teetered dangerously over the edge. I leaned back quickly and stumbled away from the precipice. The blood rushed to my ears and my legs trembled.

What the hell am I doing here? I was halfway up the hill to Dunluce Castle, about fifty feet from the main road. I could see the silhouette of the castle off in the distance to my left, and the faint glow of lights from Portballintrae to the right, pulsing through a thin mist. The full moon hovered in the starry sky, casting a wide, pearly gleam over glassy green water. A dark shadow I'm sure was a bat zipped past me with a leathery noise. As I surveyed the scene, a spot of white against the dark rocks below me caught my eye. I took a sharp breath. Impossibly, there was a boy down there, sitting on a small rock off the shore, looking up at me.

Someone is trying to kill me. When my parents died in an accident, they left me like a piece of furniture to a grandfather I never knew existed. In Ireland. As if moving halfway around the world wasn't bad enough, I soon learned my mother had left behind some unresolved drama - dark secrets that were screaming to be uncovered. And then there are the things I can't explain. Strange things keep happening around me. Happening to me. Is it because of Sebastian, the golden-haired stranger who showed up in town at the same time as I did? Or Ethan, the kid locals whisper plays with dark magic? Maybe both. Maybe neither. But someone is definitely out to get me, and I need to figure out why, and fast... because I'm discovering powers of my own. Powers that I can't contain. And no matter what I do or who is to blame, if I don't discover the real reason my mother fled Ireland, more people are going to die.

MERMAIDS ARE REAL.And they're going to kill us all. This is ++PART ONE++ of the first book (Shearwater), of the Ocean Depths Series. Beautiful Novel That Is Not Just For Young Adults By Cheri Clay Fifteen year-old Clara Clark seemed to be having a normal, happy life, though she could be a little self- centered, nevertheless she enjoys the things she loves especially singing. Than on the night of the school recital with her big solo tragedy strikes and her whole world is shattered when her parents are killed in a car accident on their way to the school. In a flash life as she knows it is turned upside down as she finds out her mom had lied about her past and Clara has a grandfather in Ireland. With him being her only living relative she is sent to live with a stranger in a little town called Portballintrae. Determined to find out the truth and why her mother left Ireland Clara begins to peel back the layers, finding out more than she could have ever imagined.

Murphy has not only an amazing way with words, but also a great attention to detail. The storyline is so descriptive its as though we can feel every heartbeat, every tear becoming a part of Clara. We can’t help about mermaids however, with such an unusual twist this novel is not just for young adults. 24 of 25 people found the following review helpful. An Intelligent, Well Written and Well Edited Fantasy By Lynn Reads The only beef I have with this book is that it ended. And I wanted to read more. Murphy is a writer who grips the reader from the first page and doesn't let go until the last page has been turned.

I found the description of the Merrow (Mermaids) to be believable and goes a few steps beyond the average mermaid book, yet it retains the magical element that keeps a reader interested. His characters are believable too, and one becomes invested in their fates. I would highly recommend this book, or soon to be series, for anyone who enjoys an intelligent, well-written and well edited fantasy. 13 of 14 people found the following review helpful. Mermaids and mysteries; definitely a page turner By P. Masserman I wasn't sure what to expect from a YA novel about mermaids, and to be honest, it is formulaic, but I enjoyed it so much I read it nearly straight through. It's not perfect; there were a few typos here and there, but then there are in print books from major publishers as well. What matters is that I got caught up in the story and wanted to know more about the world of the merrow. The conflicts are real, in the sense that people are getting killed, and the mysteries are intriguing. The only frustration is that this is only Part 1, and I'm not sure how long I will have to wait for the next installment or whether there will be only a Part 2 or more segments.
