PEMAKNAAN PENONTON TERHADAP FILM ? (TANDA TANYA) TERKAIT ISU TOLERANSI AGAMA.

(Tanda Tanya) Terkait Isu Toleransi Agama. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh
merebaknya kontroversi tentang film tersebut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah
untuk mengetahui pemaknaan penonton terhadap film ‘?’, kerangka pengetahuan
yang mendasari pemaknaan penonton, serta posisi penonton berdasarkan tiga tipe
pembacaan menurut Stuart Hall
Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis
resepsi yang berpedoman kepada model encoding-decoding dari Stuart Hall.
Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik wawancara kualitatif dan studi
dokumentasi. Subjek penelitian ditentukan dengan menggunakan teknik
purposive, yaitu berdasarkan kriteria agama serta latar belakang pendidikan dan
sosial-budaya.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat tiga posisi pemaknaan yang
terbentuk di antara penonton, yaitu penonton yang meyakini bahwa film ‘?’
memberikan gambaran kondisi nyata masyarakat Indonesia dan contoh sikap
toleransi (hegemonic-dominant), penonton yang tidak sepenuhnya meyakini
pendapat tersebut (negotiated), serta penonton yang menentang pendapat tersebut
(oppositional).
Penelitian
juga
menunjukkan
bahwa
faktor-faktor
yang
mempengaruhi pemaknaan penonton di antaranya adalah perbedaan agama,
pendidikan keluarga, pengalaman interaksi sosial di lingkungan tempat tinggal,
pendidikan sekolah, dan pengalaman-pengalaman khusus lainnya terkait
hubungan beda agama.
Saran dari penulis adalah agar penelitian dengan metode analisis resepsi,
khususnya tentang film yang mengangkat isu agama, dapat terus dikembangkan
dengan menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data yang lebih beragam dan
melibatkan pembahasan dari bidang ilmu lain seperti sosiologi, psikologi, dan
antropologi budaya, sehingga menghasilkan pemahaman yang lebih kaya.

(Tanda Tanya) Related to the Issue of Interreligious Tolerance”. The problem
was based on the widespread controversy about the film. The objective of the
research was to determine the audience interpretation of the film ‘?’, the
underlying framework of knowledge of the audience interpretation, as well as the
position of the audience based on three types of readings by Stuart Hall.
This research used a qualitative approach with reception analysis methods
that adhere to the encoding-decoding model by Stuart Hall. Data were collected
through qualitative interview and documents collecting technique. The subjects of
this research were determined by using purposive technique that is based on
religion, educational and socio-cultural background.
The results showed that there are three positions of interpreting among the
audience of the film ‘?’, those who agree that the film ‘?’ gives an overview of the
real condition of Indonesia and several examples of tolerant behaviors
(hegemonic-dominant), those who agree in some ways with the statement
(negotiated), and those who totally against the statement (oppositional). The
results also showed that the underlying factors are the religion’s, family’s, and
school’s teaching of values, and also the other kind of experiences related to the
issue of interreligious tolerance.
The author suggested that the research with reception analysis method,
especially about the movies related to religion issues, needs to be developed by
using the other kind of data collecting methods as well as involving the other
related perspectives such as sociology, psychology, and anthropology, in order to
enrich a comprehensive result.
