PREFACE
The world's socioeconomlc system ls driven by energy. Few of the advances made in the past two
centurles would have been possible wlthout the large-scale exploitation of fossll fuels. The effort that wlll
be requlred to shift from a fossil fuel-based economy to one hinged on sustainability is substantial,
requlring advances ln the basic sciences (materiats, electrochemistry and heat transfer to name a few)
through
to
systems englneering (mechanical, electrical, chemical, buildings, communication and
lnformaUon) and all the way to Intematlonal pollcy makers.
The evolutlon of new energy technologies and systems cannot follow the compartmentalized model
that has worked so well In the past because of the time constralnts imposed by oil depletion and climate
change. All parts of the new energy economy are strongly interlinked, and researchers in the field must be
aware of the entlre enterprise to maxlmize thelr own contrlbution.
UNS as one of stake holders in contributing expansion of sustainable energy and advanced material
development as well as toward World Class University has commitment to grow up conducive environment
in research actlvlties. Regarded to previous statement, several policies have been decided which one of
them ls UNS allocates for research funding at 1oZ of total budget annually or at the amount of about IDR 25
billions. Meanwhile, startlng from 2o12, DPzM DIKTI trusts our research institution (LPPM-UNS) to manage
intemal research grant competitlon autonomously. For that reason, LPPM-UNS provided "Rencana Induk
Penelitian" (RlP) for the period until zo:5.
We encourage utmost all schemes of Research and Educative Collaborations both local and
international Included cooperation between UTeM and UNS beginning from this program. Hopefully, we
could rise and gain from this forum a good networking in terms of education and research both locally and
internationally so that we will strlde together ln science and technology development.
Last but not least, I am acting as chancellor of UNS proudly open and authenticate this prestigious
program entitled International Conference and Exhibition on Sustainable Energy and Advanced Material.
We wish ICESEAM zott gives huge benefits for Science and Technology Achievement especially in the field
