Proses pemesinan gerinda merupakan salah satu proses pemesinan yang
banyak digunakan untuk memperhalus permukaan suatu komponen. Oleh karena itu
proses ini membutuhkan laju pengerjaan material yang tinggi, kekasaran permukaan
hasil pemotongan yang halus dan kepresisian yang tinggi. Untuk menghasilkan
kontur pemukaan yang halus, parameter potong seperti jumlah putaran benda kerja,
kecepatan makan aksial, dan kedalaman pemakanan sangat berpengaruh dalam proses
penggerindaan. Permasalahan yang diteliti adalah sejauh mana pengaruh parameter
potong tersebut terhadap kekasaran permukaan. Serta bagaimana setting parameterparameter tersebut agar dihasilkan nilai kekasaran yang optimal dalam hal ini nilai
kekasaran permukaan terendah. Metode yang dipakai untuk mencari pengaruh
parameter potong terhadap kekasaran permukaan adalah analisis regresi. Adapun
tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mencari seberapa besar pengaruh parameter potong
seperti jumlah putaran benda kerja, kecepatan meja kerja, dan kedalaman pemakanan
yang dapat digunakan untuk mengestimasi harga ketelitian ukuran dan kekasaran
permukaan baja ST 42 pada proses penggerindaan silindris atau cylindrical grinding.
Penelitian ini dilakukan di Laboraturium Pemesinan Jurusan Teknik Mesin Politeknik
Negeri Malang Jalan Soekarno-Hatta nomor 09 Malang Jawa Timur pada bulan
November 2011. Penelitian ini adalah pengambilan data kekasaran permukaan hasil
dari proses penggerindaan. Penelitian disusun menurut percobaan dengan analisis
regresi yaitu 27 kali percobaan dan pengulangan sebanyak satu kali.
Dari hasil penelitian parameter potong gerinda terhadap kekasaran dapat
diketahui nilai kekasaran paling rendah dan nilai kekasaran paling tinggi. nilai
kekasaran paling tinggi terjadi pada parameter potong jumlah putaran benda kerja
vii
(nw) 400 rpm, kecepatan pemakanan (vfa) 25 mm/detik, dan kedalaman pemakanan
0.04 dengan nilai kekasaran sebesar 3.52 µm. Sedangkan nilai terendah terjadi pada
parameter potong jumlah putaran benda kerja (nw) 200 rpm, kecepatan pemakanan
(vfa) 15 mm/detik, dan kedalaman pemakanan 0.02 dengan nilai kekasaran sebesar
0.90 µm
Dari persamaan regresi dapat diketahui parameter potong yang paling
berpengaruh. Parameter potong yang paling berpengaruh adalah kedalaman
pemakanan, sedang parameter yang pengaruhnya paling kecil adalah jumlah putaran
benda kerja. Hasil penelitian secara umum bahwa nilai kedalaman pemakanan
semakin besar maka nilai kekasaran permukaan semakin besar pula. Hal ini
pengaruhi oleh gaya pemakanan dan panas yang ditimbulkan oleh gesekan antara
batu gerinda dan benda kerja. Gaya pemakanan mempunyai pengaruh terhadap
spindle (poros) batu gerinda. Dengan adanya gaya pemakanan, maka seolah-olah
poros batu gerinda memperoleh gaya tekan keatas yang berlawan terhadap gaya
pemakanan yang menyebabkan terjadinya getaran dalam poros batu gerinda dan
mengakibatkan kekasaran permukaan terhadap benda kerja.

Proses pemesinan gerinda merupakan salah satu proses pemesinan yang
banyak digunakan untuk memperhalus permukaan suatu komponen. Oleh karena itu
proses ini membutuhkan laju pengerjaan material yang tinggi, kekasaran permukaan
hasil pemotongan yang halus dan kepresisian yang tinggi. Untuk menghasilkan
kontur pemukaan yang halus, parameter potong seperti jumlah putaran benda kerja,
kecepatan makan aksial, dan kedalaman pemakanan sangat berpengaruh dalam proses
penggerindaan. Permasalahan yang diteliti adalah sejauh mana pengaruh parameter
potong tersebut terhadap kekasaran permukaan. Serta bagaimana setting parameterparameter tersebut agar dihasilkan nilai kekasaran yang optimal dalam hal ini nilai
kekasaran permukaan terendah. Metode yang dipakai untuk mencari pengaruh
parameter potong terhadap kekasaran permukaan adalah analisis regresi. Adapun
tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mencari seberapa besar pengaruh parameter potong
seperti jumlah putaran benda kerja, kecepatan meja kerja, dan kedalaman pemakanan
yang dapat digunakan untuk mengestimasi harga ketelitian ukuran dan kekasaran
permukaan baja ST 42 pada proses penggerindaan silindris atau cylindrical grinding.
Penelitian ini dilakukan di Laboraturium Pemesinan Jurusan Teknik Mesin Politeknik
Negeri Malang Jalan Soekarno-Hatta nomor 09 Malang Jawa Timur pada bulan
November 2011. Penelitian ini adalah pengambilan data kekasaran permukaan hasil
dari proses penggerindaan. Penelitian disusun menurut percobaan dengan analisis
regresi yaitu 27 kali percobaan dan pengulangan sebanyak satu kali.
Dari hasil penelitian parameter potong gerinda terhadap kekasaran dapat
diketahui nilai kekasaran paling rendah dan nilai kekasaran paling tinggi. nilai
kekasaran paling tinggi terjadi pada parameter potong jumlah putaran benda kerja
vii
(nw) 400 rpm, kecepatan pemakanan (vfa) 25 mm/detik, dan kedalaman pemakanan
0.04 dengan nilai kekasaran sebesar 3.52 µm. Sedangkan nilai terendah terjadi pada
parameter potong jumlah putaran benda kerja (nw) 200 rpm, kecepatan pemakanan
(vfa) 15 mm/detik, dan kedalaman pemakanan 0.02 dengan nilai kekasaran sebesar
0.90 µm
Dari persamaan regresi dapat diketahui parameter potong yang paling
berpengaruh. Parameter potong yang paling berpengaruh adalah kedalaman
pemakanan, sedang parameter yang pengaruhnya paling kecil adalah jumlah putaran
benda kerja. Hasil penelitian secara umum bahwa nilai kedalaman pemakanan
semakin besar maka nilai kekasaran permukaan semakin besar pula. Hal ini
pengaruhi oleh gaya pemakanan dan panas yang ditimbulkan oleh gesekan antara
batu gerinda dan benda kerja. Gaya pemakanan mempunyai pengaruh terhadap
spindle (poros) batu gerinda. Dengan adanya gaya pemakanan, maka seolah-olah
poros batu gerinda memperoleh gaya tekan keatas yang berlawan terhadap gaya
pemakanan yang menyebabkan terjadinya getaran dalam poros batu gerinda dan
mengakibatkan kekasaran permukaan terhadap benda kerja.
