Imaging Concentration Profile Of Flowing Particles Using Combination Of Infra Red Emitter And Photoelectric Sensor.

VII

ABSTRACT

The project describes the development of an optical tomography which consists
of inra red sources and photodiode as the emitter-receiver element. The number of
sensors used in the project is very limited and that gave a signiicant impact on the
results

obtained.

However,

the

approach of

the

project

is

concentrated

on

the

investigation of the performance and limitations of applying infra red sensors in process
tomography. Numerous optical sources had been utilized based on the fact that it is the
simplest method available up till now. The advantage of inra red sources compared to
other optical sources was also discussed. The importance of identiying the sensor
characteristics is crucial to make sure that it is the optimum instrument for our system.
This report laid some important criteria that need to be considered upon applying
infrared tomography system. The system developed are using 16 pairs of inra red
sensors to interrogate a conveyor pipe having a size of 10 cm(width)

x

10 cm(length)

x

40 cm(high). The image reconstruction algorithm was built based on the Linear Back

Projection Algorithm. A data acquisition system is used to collect and digitalize the
analog signals from the sensor system which is manipulated by a personal computer in
real-time mode. Several experiments with differences of cube size had been carried out
to evaluate and analyze the result changes. Experiments had been carried out to evaluate
the results for receiver circuit. The results obtained were analyzed individually and
discussed at the end of the report.

Some suggestions were drawn which can be

considered in order to improve the system performance evaluation and future work.
