Abstract–Objective: As neurosurgeons, we require additional medical diagnostic
devices to treat vascular diseases such as stroke and trauma; unfortunately, most of
these devices are costly and are of foreign manufacture. This study was aimed to design
and develop locally produced medical devices that will lower medical cost and expenses
for neurosurgery patients. Technology or Method: The development of these devices

will be performed in the Biomedical Engineering Laboratories of the Bandung Institute
of Technology (ITB). The animal trial phase will be conducted in the Microanatomy
Laboratory of the Department of Neurosurgery, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas
Padjadjaran–Dr. Hasan Sadikin Hospital. Results: Our prototype validated using the
brain waves of animal models, that shown normal brain wave in all region and
decreased significantly after 30 minutes sacrificed; further, shown near flat-wave after 6
hours sacrificed. Conclusions: These devices and their operating systems will require
further development, and the further optimization of the algorithm for interpretation of
Electroenchephalography (EEG) waves will be required before these devices can be
mass-produced to be used in neurosurgical patients. Clinical Impact: This study is a
translational research that bridging the basic science and its potential clinical
implementation.
