ABSTRACT

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF CARTOON MOVIE IN TEACHING

NARRATIVE TEXT TOTHE FIRST GRADE STUDENTS AT SMA

MUHAMMADIYAH 1 PURWOKERTO IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2011/2012

  The aim of this research was to find out whether teaching narrative text using cartoon movie on the first grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah1 Purwokerto in Academic Year 2011/2012 is effective or not.

  The population of this research was the first grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto, there were 240 students. The samples of this research were 60 students out of whole population. The writer took two classes as the sample of the research by using purposive random sampling, and the class were class X-6 and class X-7. Class X-6 as control class and class X-7 as the experiment class. The writer used test (pre-test and post-test) to find the data. The test was multiple choice test.

  The result of the research showed that cartoon movie is effective in teaching narrative text. It could be seen from the result of computation of t-test, where t-result was 4.734the t-table for d.f: 58 at the level of significant 5% was 2.017so t-result was higher than t-table. It means cartoon movie is effective for teaching narrative text to the first grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto in Academic Year 2011/2012.
