Young Scholars Workshop 2013
Asian Legal Studies: New Issues and New Scholarship

The Centre for Asian Legal Studies (CALS) and Asian Law Institute (ASLI) are pleased to invite
applications to present a paper at the Centre s Young Scholars Workshop 2013. The theme is Asian
Legal Studies: New Issues and New Scholarship . The Workshop will be held at NUS in Singapore from 5
to 6 December 2013.
Consistently with the aims and purposes of CALS & ASLI, the workshop is intended to cultivate the
next generation of Asian law scholarship. Early career academics, doctoral students, and young legal
professionals with an interest in scholarship, are encouraged to apply. Paper-givers will be selected
through a competitive process and will have their travel and accommodation expenses covered.
*Please take note we will not accept abstracts from LLM or Undergraduates Students.
Theme for the Workshop
The Workshop is intended to provide a platform for younger academics from the region to discuss ongoing research in Asian laws with one another and more senior commentators. Participants will be
selected on the basis of the originality and developmental potential of their proposed papers.
Proposals from young scholars and professionals across the region are encouraged on any topic, but
especially law-and-society topics.
Paper submissions may be considered for publication in the Asian Journal of Comparative Law,
subject to peer-review and editorial discretion.
Abstracts of proposed papers and bio-data should not exceed 300 words each, and are to be
