Dear Enny,
Thank you for your letter of 15 May. Sorry I did not reply your letter sooner. I’ve
been very busy lately.
Every school holiday I have to visit my grandmother in Pakujati, a village at
the foot of Mount Slamet in Central Java. Sometimes I go there with my parents.
Last holiday we visited them again. We went there by train. Let me tell you
something about it.
The landscape looks beautiful. The terraces of large paddy fields with their
colourful scarecrows and tall bamboo trees at certain corner seem magnificent.
It is different from our crowded city, isn’t it? The people, most of them are
farmers, are very kind. They spend most of their time in the paddy fields. They

hope you will.

Balekambang is a small village on the southern coast of East Java,
seventy kilometers past the town Malang, two hours drive from it to south. It is
well-known for its long beautiful white sandy beach as well as the similarity of
its temple to Tanah Lot in Bali.
In Balekambang there are three small rocky islands namely Ismoyo

Island, Wisanggeni Island, and Anoman Island, which are surrounded by the
seas as well. That is the Indonesian Ocean whose huge waves frighten many
overseas cruisers. Those names are taken from “wayang” figures (Java
traditional puppets).

Your body needs energy, protein, minerals, vitamins, and fibre. In order
Ulangan Sumatif SMPN 1 Sukorejo Th. 2006/2007

to get all of these, it is important to have a varied and balanced diet, and to
eat the right amount of food. Your body “burns” food to energy : the amount of
energy provided by food is measured in units called calories.

How many calories do you need? This depends on your weight and on what
you do. When you are asleep, your body uses nearly one calorie an hour for every
kilogram of weight. So a person who weights seventy kilos uses about 560 calories
while sleeping for eight hours. More calories are needed for different activities from
100 calories an hour for reading or watching TV, to 350 calories an hour for playing
football.
To calculate the number of calories needed per day for an everage person, first find
out the person’s ideal weight. Then multiply the weight by 40 for a woman or 46 for a
man. A 60 – kilo woman may need about 2400 calories a day – more if she does heavy
physical work and less if she is very inactive.

The Manager of KEN TOUR
Jl. Ahmad Yani 12
Surabaya.
Dear sir,
We are sorry to complain about the service that your travel agency provided on our
school holiday Bali Tour Feb, 22 – 24.
First, on our arrival we had to stay outside despite of our tiredness after 12
hours. The people in charge said that all the rooms were still occupied by another tour
group. We were welcomed to check in after 5 hours of waiting. That means our tour
was two hours delayed. Consequently we missed one of the places to visit.
At dinnertime, many of us found no food left so we bought dinner outside.
We look forward to receiving your response.
Thank you,
Yours faithfully

Dear Mom and Dad,
I am writing to share my enjoyable experience with you. I hope this letter
will find you well.
Yesterday Budi’s classmates and I went to visit five tourist objects in
Yogyakarta and surrounding e.g. the Sultan Palace, Tamansari Water Castle, Yogya
Kembali Monument, Prambanan Temple, and Borobudur Temple. We hired a mini
bus. Budi, my closest friend in Yogya, acted as a tour guide. We departed very early
in the morning and were back home at 6.15 p.m. So we spent the whole day.
All of the five objects are interesting but Borobudur and Prambanan Temples
are more interesting than the others. Borobudur is a Buddhist temple, while
Prambanan is a Hindu one. Friend of mine said that these two temples were really
wonderful. After I saw them by myself, they are even more wonderful than what I
have imagined. Of these two objects, Borobudur is most wonderful object I have
ever seen. It is much bigger than Prambanan; it is one of the biggest temples in the
world. No wonder it is famous throughout the world. Everyone there looked very
amazed by this huge building. I am sure you will admire it, too. Make sure you take
your camera with you when you visit it next year.
Well, I will write to you again next week to tell you more about the temples
mentioned
above.
