SENSE OF PURPOSE IMPRESSION IN LEARNING ENGLISH
FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT

Abstract
This study has been designed to find the impression of sense of purpose in language learning,
especially for senior high Scholl. This study discussed the importance of sense of purpose in learning
English. A research question was answered: “What is the students’ perception on their sense of purpose in
learning English?” The data were collected from the questionnaire which was adapted and modified from
Crumbaugh and Maholic (1969).
The result showed that most of the student have a purpose in their study but not clear. It means
that students should have a clear purpose in English learning. A clear purpose in learning English would
help to achieve the goal in learning English. Maybe for a better English learning, English teacher in senior
high school should know and understand about what was students’ sense of purpose in learning English.
At this point, it is also necessary to admit that this research has several weaknesses. First,
students have variety in their psychological, emotion, and aptitude. Second, psychology was
something that cannot be forced. For further research, I hope there would be another solution or
method to increase and help the students to find their sense of purpose in English learning.
