ENGLISH DEPARTMENT ACADEMIC WRITING CLASS STUDENTS’
PERCEPTIONS TOWARD TEACHER WRITTEN FEEDBACK
Widhi Hapsari
Abstract
Teacher written feedback in writing class plays an essential role toward the student‘s
development, specifically to develop their writing skill in order to make a better writing
product. The present study reports the students‘ perceptions toward teacher written feedback
in Academic Writing class. The participants of the study were 19 third year and senior
students of English Department students of Satya Wacana Christian University with
‗criterian-based‘ selected and currently taking Academic Writing class. The study was aimed
to show how students in Academic Writing class considered their teacher written feedback.
The data came from an open-ended questionnaire and qualitative analyses were also
conducted to explore the findings in detail. Analyses of data revealed that Academic Writing
class students have a highly positive perception and put a great value on their teacher written
feedback. They perceived their teachers‘ written feedback useful to help and guide them to
develop and improve their writing skill. In addition, the learners‘ suggestions may also help
teachers to give view about what kind of written feedback expected by the learners.
