ABSTRACT

  Title : Improving Students Narrative Reading Skill through Snowball Throwing (A Classroon Action Research with Eight Grade Students of SMP N 30 Semarang in the Academic Year of 2010/2011) Writer : Anisatus Sa’adah Student Number : 073411026 The thesis discusses improving students’ narrative reading skill through snowball throwing. The study is aimed at responding the following questions: (1) how is the implementation of improving students’ narrative reading to eight grade students of SMP N 30 Semarang in the academic year of 2010/2011 through snowball throwing?, (2) How is the improvement of students’ narrative reading skill to eight grade students of SMP N 30 Semarang in the academic year of 2010/2011 after being taught by using snowball throwing? The study shows at: (1) to describe the implementation of teaching narrative reading skill to eight grade students of SMP N 30 Semarang in the academic year of 2010/2011 through snowball throwing. (2) To identify the improvement of students’ narrative reading skill to eight grade students of SMP N

  30 Semarang in the academic year of 2010/2011 after being taught by using snowball throwing. This study is a classroom action research that was done in three cycles. Data collection had done using observation, test and interview. To analyze the data, descriptive quantitative analysis is used; it is to present result study in the form of descriptive explanation. Statistic analysis is used to analyze the data about the improvement of students’ narrative reading skill. Result of the study shows that by using snowball throwing in teaching reading skill at SMP N 30 Semarang students narrative reading skill can improve. This successfulness can be seen from the result of students’ average score and good responses by students. The result after getting all of treatment using snowball throwing, the students’ average score increased in line with the increase of students score in each cycle. Students’ average score from the first cycle was 69, 6, second cycle was 75 and third cycle was 78, 11. Based on the result of this study, it is expected to be information for English teacher in teaching reading skill.
