Vocabulary is one of important elements in learning a language. Without
vocabulary, everybody will get difficulties in learning English and also will have
a limited understanding in terms of listening, speaking, reading and writing. So, it
is quite true that it might be impossible to learn a language without learning
vocabulary. The condition of teaching and learning process in MI Muhammadiyah
Jati Kulon Kudus,the teacher does not use any technique to teach English
vocabulay. The teacher only gives the meaning of some vocabulary directly while
delivering the material. On this condition, the reseacher propose Banana Race
Game to teach vocabulary.
The objective of this research is to find out whether there is any
improvement of the vocabulary mastery and to know the implementation of
Banana Race Game in improving vocabulary mastery of fifth grade students at MI
Muhammadiyah Jati Kulon Kudus.
This research belongs to classroom action research. Banana Race Game is
the game that used in this research. This research is conduct at MI
Muhammadiyah Jati Kulon Kudus, while the subject is the fifth grade students at
MI Muhammadiyah Jati Kulon Kudus that consists of 20 students. This research

is done in 2 cycles. The researcher uses two instruments in this research. First is
observation sheet that is used to know the teacher’s and student’s activities.
Second is achivement test used to know the students’ vocabulary mastery.
Based on the finding of this research, the students’ average score is improve
from 65.25 in cycle 1 then it is changed into percentage to be 66.25% and 76.25 in
cycle2 then it is changed into percentage to be 76.25%. From the data above, the
category of the average score of the students’ vocabulary mastery in cycle 1 is
good and in the cycle 2 is very good. It can be concludes that Banana Race Game
can improve the vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students at MI
Muhammadiayh Jati Kulon Kudus in academic year 2016/2017.
From the fact above, it is expected that English teacher should be more
active, creative and inovative in teaching learning process. So, the students will be
more active in teaching learning process.

Kosakata adalah salah satu elemen terpenting didalam belajar suatu bahasa.
Tanpa kosakata, setiap orang akan mengalami kesulitan didalam mempelajari
bahasa Inggris, juga akan memiliki keterbatasan pemahaman dalam medengarkan,
berbicara, membaca dan menulis. Itu membuktikan bahwa tidak mungkin belajar
bahasa tanpa adanya kosakata. Kegiatan proses belajar mengajar di MI
Muhammadiyah Jati Kulon Kudus, guru tidak menggunakan teknik apapun.guru
hanya menjelaskan materi, dan menerjemahkan kosakatanya. Sehingga peneliti
mengajukan permainan Pisang Balap sebagai teknik mengajar.
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mencari tahu jika permainan balap pisang
dapat meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata siswa dan untuk mengetahui
pelaksanaan permainan balap pisang dalam peningkatan penguasaan kosakata di
kelas lima MI Muhammadiyah Jati Kulon Kudus pada tahun ajaran 2016/2017.
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas. Teknik yang digunakan
dalam penelitian ini adalah permainan balap pisang. Penelitin ini dilaksanakan di

MI Muhammadiyah Jati Kulon Kudus , dan subjek penelitian ini adalah kelas lima
yang terdiri dari 20 siswa. Penelitian ini diselesaikan dalam 2 siklus. Sebagai
tambahan, penulis menggunakan dua instrumen. Pertama adalah lembar observasi
yang digunakan untuk mengetahui aktivitas guru dan siswa dalam proses belajar
mengajar. Sedangkan yang kedua adalah tes prestasi yang digunakan untuk
mengetahui penguasaan kosakata siswa.
Berdasarkan temuan dalam penelitian ini, nilai rata-rata siswa meningkat dari
66.25 disiklus 1 yang kemudian diubah menjadi persentase sebesar 66.25%
menjadi 76.25 disiklus 2 yang diubah menjadi persentase sebesar 76.25%.
kategori nilai rata-rata siswa pada siklus 1 adalah baik, sedangkan kategori nilai
rata-rata siswa pada siklus 2 adalah sangat bagus. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa
permainan balap pisang dapat meningakatkan penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas
lima di MI Muhammadiyah Jati Kulon Kudus pada tahun ajaran 2016/2017.
Berdasarkan fakta atas, diharapkan para guru Bahasa Inggris harus lebih
kreatif dan inovatif dengan menggunakan tehnik mengajar yang beragam.
Sehingga, siswa akan lebih tertarik untuk belajar bahasa Inggris. Kemudian
mereka akan merasa senang dalam belajar.
