Chapter Five
Conclusion and Recommendation
This chapter presents conclusion and recommendation of this study. The
conclusion of the study concludes the result of this study. Besides, this chapter
gave recommendation to the reader who needs any information related to this
study.
Conclusion
This research has three objectives; they are to know the types of pre-reading
activities implemented at EED of UMY, to know the students’ perception on the
implementation of pre-reading activities at EED of UMY, and to know the
students’ perception on the advantages of pre-reading activities at EED of UMY.
This study is under qualitative approach. The result of this study was obtained
from four students from English Education Department of Universitas
Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta batch 2014.
The first objective of this research is to know the types of pre-reading
activities implemented at EED of UMY. Based on the data, the participants of this
study stated that there were some types of pre-reading activity, namely group
discussion, pre-teaching vocabulary, brainstorming, predicting, pre-questioning,
and visual aids with video

The second objective is to know the students’ perception on the
implementation of pre-reading activities at EED of UMY. After knowing the
types of pre-reading activities, the participants of this study explain the

implementation of each type of pre-reading activity. The implementation of prereading activities are making a group and discussing the text together, discussing
vocabulary in the text, providing some question before reading, showing the video
related to the text.
The last objective of this research is to know the students’ perception on the
advantages of pre-reading activities at EED of UMY. All of participants of this
study got the benefits of pre-reading activity in their teaching and learning
English. Such students are more prepared for the concept, students comprehend
better the concept of the text, students have the opportunity to share the ideas,
students feel more motivated, students are more prepared for the language use in
the text, students can increase their knowledge, students can learn how to practice
and analyze the reading text, and students can increase their vocabulary

Recommendations
After knowing the result of this study, the researcher gives some

recommendations for the students, teachers or lecturers and further research.
For the students. Students should pay more attention for pre-reading
activity because this activity is beneficial for their teaching and learning English,
especially in reading. Therefore, students should apply pre-reading activity in
their learning practice because pre-reading activity help students for the better
comprehension
For the teachers or lecturers. Based on the result, the teachers or lecturers
know the benefit of pre-reading activity for students, so they should apply prereading activity in teaching and learning in the classroom. In addition, the teachers

or lecturers should give a clear explanation of the pre-reading activity for their
students.
For further researcher. The other researcher might conduct the research
about this case with another method. The researcher in this study has been
investigated pre-reading activity by students’ perceptions. Therefore the
researcher hopes that other researcher can conduct research about pre-reading
activity through observation or experiment.
