INDONESIA IN COMPARATIVE PERSPECTIVE
In this issue we present the first paper in a new annual series on the general topic
of ‘Indonesia in Comparative Perspective’. These specially commissioned papers
will be distinguished by considering key Indonesian economic policy issues
within the context of comparisons with other countries, especially those in East
Asia.
The inaugural paper in this series is by Professor C. Peter Timmer, a long-time
student of Indonesian policy issues and policy adviser to the Indonesian government. It discusses economic growth, poverty and inequality, drawing on comparative experience in Asia.
It is intended that further papers will discuss topics such as monetary and
exchange rate policy, approaches to foreign trade and investment, agricultural,
industrial and finance sector development, labour market regulation, natural
resource and environmental issues, and so on.
The Editor for the ‘Indonesia in Comparative Perspective’ series will be Dr
Chris Manning, who welcomes suggestions for suitable topics and authors.
