13 Security Tips To Safe Internet Banking


Keep your password/ PIN code saf e and memorize t hem. Make sure you change t hem regularly
(recommended every 3 mont hs). If you conduct Int ernet t ransact ions in a number of websit es, use dif f erent
passwords f or each websit e. Creat e unique passwords t hat are dif f icult t o guess, e. g. use a combinat ion of
let t ers and numbers.

Look at t he st at us bar of t he securit y icon (locked padlock) when you visit t he bank sit e. Double
click on t he padlock and ensure t hat it has a valid digit al cert if icat e.

Log out immediat ely af t er you have complet ed your Int ernet t ransact ion. Then, clear t he browser cache,
cookies and hist ory (ref er t o your bank’ s websit e f or online guidance). Ensure t hat you log out properly
af t er every Int ernet banking session and not j ust close t he browser.



Never leave your comput er unat t ended when you are conduct ing your Int ernet t ransact ions.



If you are unsure of t he securit y of t he comput er, do not use it f or Int ernet t ransact ions.



Use an ant i-virus, ant i-spyware and personal f irewall and keep it updat ed. Some of t his sof t ware are f reely
available on t he Int ernet .




Ensure t hat your PC and browser are updat ed wit h t he lat est pat ches/ f ixes. Use t he Aut omat ed Updat e
f eat ure of your Operat ing Syst em (e. g. Windows Update f or Windows users).



Do not be inf luenced by appealing of f ers, especially f rom unknown part ies. Do not click on any links
at t ached in your emails. Do not copy and past e any websit e address (URL). Ret ype t he websit e address t o
surf or use your Bookmark.



Do not respond t o emails asking f or personal inf ormat ion, log in inf ormat ion or on changing password
not if icat ion. Report t o your bank or Malaysian Cyber Securit y Agency.



If you decide t o go t o ot her websit es linked via your int ernet banking websit e, read t he privacy and policy
inf ormat ion of t hat websit e f irst bef ore conduct ing any Int ernet t ransact ions.




Always check your account balance/ st at ement t o ensure t hat no unaut horized wit hdrawal has t aken place.



When visit ing your Int ernet banking sit e, always check t hat t he Dat e and Time, mat ches t he dat e and t ime
when you last signed in.
