ABSTRACT THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PARAPHRASING STRATEGY ON SMK STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION By Kiki Ambang Permadi 0801050064

The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of paraphrasing strategy to teach reading procedure text at SMK Diponegoro Majenang in academic year of 2012/2013.

The method of this research was experimental method. The data were taken on 25 February

  • – 9 March 2013 at the grade twelve of SMK Diponegoro Majenang. The sample consisted of 36 students. The technique used to collect the data was reading test. The writer used pre-test and post- test to find the data. The test was multiple choices. t-test was used to analyze the data

After the data were analyzed, there was positive influence of teaching reading procedure text using paraphrasing strategy. It can be seen on the calculation using t-test formula also showed that the result of t-test was higher than t-table (4.18> 1.994) with the degree of freedom = 70 at level of significant 5% and the value of t-table using one-tail was 1.994. Consequently, the hypothesis was accepted. It means that paraphrasing strategy was effective for teaching reading comprehension.
