Report Highlights:
On October 24, 2017, Taiwan completed normal tender GF4-106-086 for 6,000 tons of U.S. rice (6,900
tons on a brown rice basis). Taiwan has now completed tenders for 39,650 tons of U.S. rice, equaling
61 percent of the 2017 U.S. rice country-specific quota (CSQ).

General Information:
As of October 30, 2017, Taiwan has completed tenders for 39,650 tons of U.S. rice counting towards the
2017 U.S. CSQ, including two Simultaneous-Buy and Sell tender (SBS) tenders and two normal tenders.
The Council of Agriculture (COA) has scheduled an additional normal tender (GF4-106-142) for 12,000
tons of medium/short grain brown U.S. rice for November 7, 2017.
October 24, 2017 U.S. Rice Normal Tender (GF4-106-086)
6,000 tons of U.S-origin milled medium grain rice (6,900 MT brown equivalent)
COA awarded the full tender to one bidder out of four at NT$24,866 per ton (US $821.71/ton). The
delivery terms were for 500 tons each month in 2018. COA had originally proposed more restrictive
tender specifications that included an upper and lower limit for kernel width and length. However, COA
later dropped this proposal and instead set a simple length limit of 6.61 mm for medium or short grain
rice as it has done in the past.
August 30, 2017 U.S. Rice Second SBS Tender (GF4-106-094)
13,100 tons of U.S.-origin rice

COA awarded the tender to six of the twenty-three bidders who participated in the bid. Five received
2,500 tons each and one received 600 tons at the same price of NT$7,209 per ton (US $239.25/ton). The
delivery term for SBS tender is from May 1, 2017 through April 30, 2018.
