the Academic Year 2015/2016 taught by using Genki Interactive

Speaking becomes one of the significant problems for the fifth graders of
SDN 03 Menawan, they still have difficulties in delivering their ideas about the
materials even in very simple conversation. Moreover, the English teacher rarely
speaks English to her students. So, it makes their speaking ability is still not good.

Therefore, the writer used an English media called Genki to solve the problems.
Genki is an audiovisual media consisting of some menu of programme such as
words, mini lesson, song, game and karaoke.
The objective of the research is to find out whether or not there is a
significant difference between the speaking ability of the fifth graders of SDN 03
Menawan in the academic year 2015/2016 before and after being taught by using
Genki interactive programme.
The design of this reasearch is experimental research. The population and
sample of the research is the fifth graders of SDN 03 Menawan in the academic
year 2015/2016 which consists of 18 students. This research uses set of oral test as
the instrument of the research.
The result of this research shows that the mean of post-test is higher than
pre-test (75.06 > 56.39). It means that there is a significant difference between the
speaking ability of the fifth graders of SDN 03 Menawan in the academic year
2015/ 2016 before and after being taught by using Genki interactive programme
with the level of significance 0.05or 5% and degree of freedom (df) 17, the t
observation (t0) is 17.90 and the t-test is 2.110. It finds that t observation is higher
than t table. So, the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis
(Ha) is confirmed.
The writer suggests for the English teachers to apply this media in

teaching and learning process, especially in speaking for elementary-level
students. For further researchers, this research can be used as the reference to
conduct research by using Genki interactive programme.

Berbicara menjadi salah satu masalah yang signifikan untuk siswa kelas
V SDN 03 Menawan, mereka masih mengalami kesulitan dalam menyampaikan
ide-ide mereka tentang materi walaupun dalam percakapan yang sangat singkat.
Terlebih lagi, Guru Bahasa Inggris jarang berbicara menggunakan Bahasa Inggris
kepada siswa-siswanya. Jadi, hal tersebut membuat kemampuan berbicara mereka
masih belum baik. Oleh karena itu, penulis menggunakan sebuah media Bahasa
Inggris yang disebut Genki untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut. Genki adalah

sebuah audiovisual media yang terdiri dari beberapa menu seperti kata, pelajaran
mini, lagu, permainan dan karaoke.
Tujuan dari penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat
perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan berbicara dari siwa kelas lima SDN
03 Menawan pada tahun ajaran 2015/2016 sebelum dan sesudah menggunakan
Genki program yang interaktif.
Desain penelitian ini adalah penelitial eksperimental. Populasi dan
sampel dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelass lima SDN 03 Menawan pada tahun
ajaran 2015/2016 yang terdiri dari 18 siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan tes lisan
sebagai instrument dalam pengumpulan data.
Hasil dari penelitian ini, menunjukan bahwa rata-rata dari post-test lebih
tinggi dari pre-test (75.06 > 56.39). Ini berarti ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada
kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas lima SDN 03 Menawan pada tahun ajaran
2015/ 2016 sebelum dan sesudah diajar menggunakan Genki program yang
interaktif pada level signifikan 0.05 atau 5% df 17, t observation (t0) adalah 17.90
dan the t-test adalah 2.110. Ini menunjukan bahwa t observation itu lebih tinggi
dari t table. Jadi, dapat dikatakan bahwa null hipotesis ditolak, sementara
alternatif hipotesis diterima.
Penulis menyarankan kepada para guru bahasa inggris untuk memakai
media ini dalam proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran, terutama dalam berbicara

siswa-siswa sekolah dasar. Untuk peneliti selanjutnya, penelitian ini dapat
digunakan sebagai referensi untuk mengadakan penelitian dengan menggunakan
Genki program yang interaktif.
