finish his skripsi entitled “The Speaking Ability of Eleventh Grade Students of
SMK NU Ma’arif 2 Kudus in Academic Year 2015/2016 Taught by Using
Impromptu Speech Technique”.

Speaking is difficult to learn because English is not the Indonesian native
language. It same that English is a difficult subject for the students including the
students of SMK NU Ma’arif 2 Kudus. The English teacher stated that most of the
eleventh grade students of SMK NU Ma’arif 2 Kudus still get difficulties in
speaking. It was found that the students get diffiulties in expressing their idea or
opinion. To solve the problem, the researcher would like to use Imprompt Speech
technique in teaching speaking.
The objective of this research is to know whether there is any significant
difference between the Speaking Ability of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMK
NU Ma’arif 2 Kudus in academic year 2015/2016 before and after being taught by
Using Impromptu Speech Technique. Then the researcher intends to help the
students’ speaking ability by Impromptu Speech Technique as an alternative
technique.
This research used quantitative research design as the research design. It is
conducted by doing four treatments in the eleventh grade students (XI TKR 4) of
SMK NU Ma’arif 2 Kudus in academic year 2015/2016. The instrument used by
the researcher is test, and the material of this research is Hope and Dream.
The result of this research shows that in level signififance 5% and the

deggree of freedom (df) N-1 = 33, there is a significant difference between the
Speaking Ability of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMK NU Ma’arif 2 Kudus in
academic year 2015/2016 before and after being taught by using Impromptu
Speech Technique . It can be seen that the calculation result t-observasion (to =
23.18) meanwhile ( tt = 2.042). It means the null hypothesis is rejected and the
alternative hypothesis is accepted (to = 23.18  tt = 2.042). The speaking ability of
the eleventh grade students of SMK NU Ma’arif 2 Kudus in academic year
2015/2016 befor being taught by using Impromptu Speech Technique is low
(Mean = 43.03 and SD = 10,64) and after being taugh by using Impromptu Speech
Technique is good (Mean = 73.18 and SD = 9.35).
Furthermore, the researcher concludes that Impromptu Speech Technique
is effective technique to teach the speaking ability of the eleventh grade students
of SMK NU Ma’arif 2 Kudus in academic year 2015/2016 and can be the
alternative technique which used by the teacher in teaching learning process
especially in teaching speaking ability.

Bahasa itu sulit untuk dipelajari karena bahasa inggris bukanlah bahasa
asli Indonesia. Keihatanyya bahasa inggris merupakan mata pelajaran yang sulit
untuk semua siswa termasuk siswa SMK NU Ma’arif 2 Kudus yang masih
mendapatkan kesulitan dalam berbicara. Hal seperti in terungkap ketika siswa
kesulitan dalam mengekspresikan ide atau pendapat mereka. Karena alasan itu,
peneliti ingin menggunakan pidato pendadak sebagai teknik dalam proses belajar
berbicara.
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada perubahan yang
signifikan antara Kemampuan Berbicara Siswa Kelas sebelas di SMK NU Ma’arif
2 Kudus pada Tahun Ajaran 2015/2016 sebelum dan sesudah diajar dengan teknik
Pidato Mendadak Kemudian, penulis bermaksud untuk membantu kemampuan
siswa berbicara dengan teknik pidato mendadak sebagai slah satu alternatif teknik.
Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuantitatif sebagai desain penelitian.
Ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan empat perlakuan di Kelas Sebelas (TKR 4) di

SMK NU Ma’arif 2 Kudus pada Tahun Ajaran 2015/2016. Instrumen yang
digunakan oleh penulis adalah tes, dan materi pada penelitian ini adalah harapan
dan impian.
Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tingkat signifikan 5% dan derajat
kebebasan (df) N-1 = 33, ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan
berbicara siswa kelas XI SMK NU Ma’arif 2 Kudus sebelum dan sesudah
menggunakan teknik pidato mendadak tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Hal ini dapat kita
lihat perhitungan t-observasi (to = 23.18) sedangkan ( tt = 2.042). Ini berarti
hipotesis nol ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif diterima (to = 23.18  tt = 2.042).

2015/2016 yang sebelum diajar menggunakan teknik pidato mendadak “rendah”
(Mean = 43.03 and SD = 10,64) dan yang sesudah diajar menggunakan teknik
pidato mendadak “baik” (Mean = 73.18 and SD = 9.35).
Disamping itu, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa teknik “Pidato Mendadak”
adalah teknik yang efektif untuk mengajar Kemampuan Berbicara Siswa Kelas
Sebelas di SMK NU Ma’arif 2 Kudus pada Tahun Ajaran 2015/2016 dan bisa jadi
teknik alternatif yang digunakan oleh guru dalam proses belajar mengajar
khususnya pada pembelajaran kemampuan berbicara.
