The problem of this study is “How the struggle for prosperity is reflected
in John Grisham's A Painted House.” The objectives of this study are to analyze
John Grisham's A Painted House based on the structural elements and to analyze
the novel based on the Marxist approach.
The writer employs qualitative method. In this method the writer uses two
data sources, namely primary and secondary data sources. The primary data
source is the novel itself. The secondary data sources are the books about Marxist,
internet and other sources, which are related to the analysis. The method of data
collection is library research and the technique is descriptive technique.
Based on the analysis, the writer draws some conclusion as follows. First,
social and economic system has important role to realize prosperity. Besides the
injustice economic system the poverty may be caused by the disaster. The second,
the economic and social injustice toward the society support the lower class to
struggle in order to reach the prosperity.
