Biopharmaca Conservation and Cultivation Station (BCCS)
Biopharmaca Conservation and Cultivation Station is a technical unit under the BRC. It was
established for handling BRC endeavor in biopharmaca cultivation and conservation
integratedly and sustainably. This station is located within IPB Darmaga Campus on 3.5
hectares. BCCS is a "showroom" for BRC activity in upstream field of biopharmaca research.
This unit dealing with display, collection, and production of biopharmaca raw materials.
Technical Manager: Prof. Dr. Ir. Munif Ghulamahdi, MS
Laboratory of Biopharmaca Research Center Laboratory (LBRC)
Laboratory of Biopharmaca Research Center is a technical unit under the BRC. It was
established in line with BRC efforts in enhancing quality and added values of biopharmaca
products. It has role for conducting services in biopharmaca quality analysis. Its services is
offered for academicians, researchers, industries, private sectors, and public. LBRC has
wide capability in biopharmaca quality analysis. It involves many analysis, such as
phytochemical screening, proximate analysis, extraction, and efficacy test. BTL uses

international standard analysis method and also uses modern analysis instrument (HPLC,
FTIR, AAS, etc.).

with BRC efforts in enhancing quality and added values of biopharmaca research. It has
role for conducting services in biopharmaca quality analysis. Its services is offered for
academician, researcher, industry, private sector and public. The services are a). in vivo
testing for anti-inflammatory, analgesic, LD50, sub-chronic toxicity, osteoporosis and
aromatherapy, b). providing mice and rats, and c). renting the place for in-vivo testing.
Quality Manager: Waras Nurcholis, MSi
Unit Pilot Plant & Workshop (UPPW)

Unit Pilot Plant & Workshop is a technical unit under the BRC. It was established for
developing biopharmaca products & training. The product, which successfully developed,
are herbal capsule, herbal candy, herbal instant beverage, etc., both for treatment and
functional food. PPU in collaboration with PT. Biofarindo has been commercialized the
products.
Quality Manager: Susi Indariani, STP., MSi

INTRODUCTION
RESEARCH PRIORITY

Indonesia is a country belong to "megadiversity countries" along with
Mexico, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Zaire, Madagascar, China,
India, Malaysia, and Australia which are believed to contain 70% of
the world's species diversity. Indonesia also is a multiethnic society,
with more than 1.000 ethnic/subethnic groups. This unique
combination makes Indonesia become a country rich in ethnobotany
information as well. The utilization of both assets will make a
significant contribution to increase the welfare of Indonesian society.
Therefore, within this context, Biopharmaca Research Center (BRC)
was established. Biopharmaca is defined as plants, animals, mineral,
and microbes that have potential properties as drugs, health food,
functional food, and nutraceutica, for human, animals, and plants.
BRC is an organization belongs to Institute of Research and
Community Services, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). BRC has
devoted its existence as a networking institution and for coordinating
research on biopharmaca-related materials. The Center is working on
biopharmaca
development,
natural

resources
conservation,
proposing bioprospective policy and regulation. Furthermore, its
multidisciplinary expertise have the capability in exploration,
conservation, cultivation, extraction, chemical structure analysis,
standardization, and efficacy studies of the natural resources.

VISION
To be a leading research center in biopharmaca areas by optimizing added
value of natural resources at national and international level.

MISSION
1. To gather, to synergize, and to enhance cooperation and networking

amongst the human resources within units in IPB as well as outside IPB in
venturing of the improvement of biopharmaca added values.
2. To develop the frontier science, arts, and technology on the development of
patentable biopharmaca products which can support self-sustained nation
3. To improve human resource quality through education, trainings, and
community services

COMPETENCY
An integral research on biopharmaca and nutraceutical, from upstream to
downstream aspects through multidiscipline/ interdisciplinary strategies.

MANDATE OF RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT
Research on indigenous knowledge and technology which is related to the
prevention, control disease, and medical treatment for human, animals,
and plants
Research on policy for utilization and development indigenous natural
resources which have potency for prevention, control, and treatment of
diseases in human, animals, plants and for nutraceutical
Research on the development of GACP and GMP of indigenous natural
resources as material for medicine and nutraceutical for human, animals
and plants
Research on the development of standardization model for biopharmaca
products and nutraceutical
Research on social and economic impact of the development of
biopharmaca and nutraceutical.

Exploration and bioprospecting investigation of natural
resources and the development of patentable
biopharmaca
product
derived
from
indigenous
knowledge
Standardization of biopharmaca product and its
materials. It involves the investigation of its chemical
and biological (efficacy and safety) properties
Research on social and economic aspects in the
development
of
biopharmaca
and
conducting

are developed based on diseases priority.

ATTAINING TARGETS
To explore and to investigate the bioprospecting of natural resources and the
development of patentable biopharmaca product derived from indigenous knowledge.
To acquire the intellectual property rights from biopharmaca products which are
developed based on diseases priority (degenerative diseases, e.g., diabetes mellitus,
uric acid disorder)
To obtain Standard Operation Procedures in cultivation and manufacturing
biopharmaca products which is nationally and internationally recognized. To obtain
standard manual (i.e. SNI, Indonesian National Standard ) for biopharmaca products,
