Key words: Listening skill, video, enjoy, and Classroom Action Research
There are four language skills in English, namely: listening, writing, reading and
speaking. Listening is the most important skill among the other skill. More than 45% of
communicating time is spent listening. Based on the observation of the researcher
conducted in the classroom in the teaching and learning process, the students just stay and
listen to the teacher and they are so passive while in the classroom. The students have
already given up, lazy, and probably busy with their own business with friends. Video
could enhance and stimulate the students’ attention and passion to learn English in school.
The objective of this research is to improve the students’ listening skill by using
video. This research will give some useful information about teaching listening by using
video. It will give some joyful learning experiences to the students and then they could
efficiently absorb more knowledge in English subject.
This research conducted in SMA N 1 Mayong Jepara in class X7. The class

consists of 38 students; they are 12 boys and 26 girls. The researcher uses a classroom
action research. This research consists of some cycles and each of them consists of
planning, acting, observation and reflecting.
The result of the research was significantly improved from cycle I to cycle II. In
cycle I the average score of listening skill of the tenth graders of SMA N 1 Mayong Jepara
in 2015/2016 academic year after using video is 69.97. It is categorized low. And in the
cycle II the average score were 83.21. It is categorized high. The students’ concentration
was improved during the research, because video could forcibly intent their focus while
learning.
The researcher suggests to the teacher to use video in order to attract the students’
attention during teaching English not only for the material of ‘responding to the
expressions of congratulation and compliment’, but also it can used for other materials.
From the result, the researcher concludes that video could improve the students’ listening
skill.

Terdapat empat keterampilan bahasa dalam bahasa Inggris, yaitu: mendengarkan,
menulis, membaca, dan berbicara. Mendengarkan adalah keterampilan yang lebih penting
daripada keterampilan lainnya. Lebih dari 45% waktu komunikasi dihabiskan untuk
mendengarkan. Berdasarkan pengamatan peneliti yang dilakukan di kelas dalam proses
belajar mengajar, para siswa hanya duduk diam dan hanya mendengarkan guru dan
mereka tak begitu giat saat berada di dalam kelas. Video dapat meningkatkan dan
merangsang perhatian dan gairah siswa untuk belajar bahasa Inggris di sekolah.
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan keterampilan
mendengarkan siswa dengan menggunakan video. Penelitian ini akan memberikan
beberapa informasi yang berguna tentang tentang keterampilan mendengarkan dengan
menggunakan video. Ini akan memberikan suatu pengalaman belajar yang menyenangkan
kepada siswa dan mereka dapat lebih banyak menyerap pengetahuan Bahasa Inggris
secara efisien.
Penelitian ini telah diadakan di SMA N 1 Mayong Jepara di kelas X7. kelas ini
terdiri dari 38 siswa; mereka 12 anak laki-laki dan 26 perempuan. Peneliti menggunakan
penelitian tindakan kelas. Penelitian ini terdiri dari beberapa siklus dan masing-masing

terdiri dari perencanaan, penindakan, peninjauan dan pemikiran.
Hasil penelitian ini secara signifikan meningkat dari siklus I ke siklus II. Pada
siklus I skor rata-rata mendengarkan keterampilan siswa kelas X SMA N 1 Mayong
Jepara di 2015/2016 tahun akademik setelah menggunakan video 69.97. Hal ini
dikategorikan rendah. Dan pada siklus II nilai rata-rata yang 83.21. Hal ini dikategorikan
tinggi. Konsentrasi siswa ditingkatkan selama penelitian, karena video secara paksa bisa
niat fokus mereka sambil belajar.
Peneliti menyarankan kepada guru untuk menggunakan video untuk menarik
perhatian siswa selama mengajar bahasa Inggris tidak hanya untuk materi 'Merespon
Ungkapan dari Selamat dan Memuji', tetapi juga dapat digunakan untuk materi ajar
lainnya. Dari hasil tersebut, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa video dapat meningkatkan
keterampilan mendengarkan siswa.
