RESEACRH METHOD
3.1

Research Method
The researcher uses descriptive qualitative in analyzing the general

description of the main character, conflict experienced of the main character,
and the dilemma experienced by the main character.
3.2.

Unit of Analysis
The researcher divided the analysis of data into two type intrinsic and

extrinsic element. Intrinsic element is used to analyze general description,
conflicts experienced, and setting described by the main character in the film.
Extrinsic element in this film analyzed dilemma experienced by the main
character.
3.3.

Source of Data

The researcher uses Jon Garcia’s The Falls film as the primary source

of data. The writer also uses the other references and psychological theory. As
supported data the writer uses other articles and journals from the internet.
3.4.

Technique of Data Collection
The first step is watching film The Falls carefully and repeatedly. By

using psychological approach, the researcher watches the film for a several
times. The second step is collecting secondary data, such as printed books,
electronic sources in term of articles, journals that relate to the book and it
can be found on the internet.

Technique of Data Analysis

3.5.1

Structural Approach
The researcher uses the structural approach to analyze the general
description of Ricky John, conflict internal and external experience by
Ricky John, and setting that describe by Ricky John.

3.5.2

Psychological Approach
The researcher uses psychological approach to analyze the general
description of Ricky John, conflict such as external and internal
conflicts, setting of place, time and social in the film. According to
Semi (1988:35), intrinsic aspects including character, conflict, setting
and figurative language, are the element which build the literary work
itself.
