ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini menguraikan tentang politik identias etnis Tionghoa di Kota Medan.
Sebagai salah satu etnis terbesar di Kota Medan maka etnis ini berperan penting dalam
kehidupan politik Kota Medan. Terbukanya akses etnis Tionghoa ke dalam dunia politik tentu
memberikan dampak yang besar bagi politik Indonesia khususnya Kota Medan. Dalam
penelitian digunakan teori politik identitas dan etnisitas untuk mengetahui sejauh mana etnis
Tionghoa ikut terlibat di dalam dunia politik.
Teori politik identitas memaparkan tentang bagaimana etnis Tionghoa ikut dalam dunia
politik melalui identitas politiknya serta etnisitas sebagai kesatuan untuk memajukan etnis.
Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan metode wawancara dan studi kepustakaan.
Informan dalam penelitian ini adalah anggota dari beberapa organisasi Tionghoa yaitu
Perhimpunan INTI ( Indonesia Tionghoa ) dan PSMTI ( Paguyuban Sosial Marga Tionghoa
Indonesia ) serta informan yang berasal dari partai politik Perindo.
Politik identitas etnis Tionghoa di Kota Medan memang sangat mudah dijumpai pada
masa pemilu. Penggunaan identitas etnik didalam perjuangan politik saat ini masih banyak
terjadi dihampir seluruh daerah di Indonesia, termasuk di Kota Medan . Politik etnis lebih efektif
digunakan untuk menarik perhatian masyarakat dalam Pemilu, karena politik etnis lebih bersifat
kasat mata dari pada politik uang. Dapat dilihat bahwa etnis Tionghoa di Kota Medan memang
dari dulu kekerabatannya kuat sehingga memberikan kesan bahwa mereka adalah etnis yang
tertutup ataupun ekslusif di mata masyarakat.

ABSTRACT
This study describes the political identity of the ethnic Chinese in Medan . As one of
the largest ethnic group in Medan , the ethnic groups play an important role in the political life of
the city of Medan . Open access to the Chinese people in the political world is certainly a major
impact for Indonesian politics , especially the city of Medan . In the study used the theory of
identity politics and ethnicity to determine the extent to which the Chinese people involved in the
world of politics .
Theory of identity politics explain how Chinese people participate in politics through
political identity and ethnicity as to promote ethnic unity . Data was collected by interview and
literature study . Informants in this study are members of several Chinese organizations , namely
the Association INTI ( Chinese Indonesian ) and PSMTI ( Paguyuban Sosial Marga Tionghoa
Ondonesia ) as well as informants who come from political parties Perindo .
Chinese ethnic identity politics in the city of Medan was very easy to find on the
elections . The use of ethnic identity in the political struggle is still prevalent in almost all
regions in Indonesia , including in the city of Medan . Ethnic politics is more effectively used to
attract the attention of the public in the elections , because of ethnic politics is more visible than
the political money. It can be seen that the ethnic Chinese in Medan indeed always been a strong
kinship thus giving the impression that they are ethnically closed or exclusive in the public eye .

ABSTRAK
