Temulawak (Curcutnu xanthorrhiza Roxb.) merupakan tanaman obat yang cukup
potensial dan prospektif unfxk dikernbangkan. Hasil penelitian dunia kedokteran modern,
diketah~ribahwa khasiat temulawak terutama disebabkan oIeh dua kelompok kandungan
kimia utama, yakni kurkuminoid dan minyak atsiri. Untuk mengoptimalkan ekstrak
kurkumin yang terdapat di dalam rimpang ternufawak, diperlukan suatu metode ekstraksi
yang tepat, efektif, dan efisien untuk mengisolasi sebanyak-banyaknya kurkumin yang
terkandung daiam rimpang temutawak tersebut.
Dalam penelitian ini, temufawak diekstraksi menggunakan metode sonikasi dengan
pelarut etanol dan dilakukan tiga variasi variabel, yaitu waktu (15, 30, dan 45 menit),
suhu (35, 45, dan 55 OC), dan nisbah pelarut (15, 1:7, dan 1:9). Setelah itu, ekstrak
dipekatkan dengan penguap putar pada suhu 40 "C dengan kecepatan 60 rpm kemudian
diukur kadar kurkuminnya. Kadar kurkumin rimpang temulawak optimum menurut
MODDE 5 terjadi pada saat suhu 55 "C,nisbah pelarut 15, waktu ekstraksi 30 menit,
dan diperoleh hasil sebesar 3,9125%. Hasil validasi kadar kurkumin dalam ekstrak etanol
ternulawak yang diukur menggunakan spektrofotometer sinar tampak memberikan hasil
sebesar 3,7969%.

Temulawak (Curcu~~za
xanthorrhiza Roxb.) is a potential and prospective medicinal
herb to be developed. Modern medical research show that the efficacy of temz~Zmakis
due to two major chemical compounds: curcuminoid and essential oil. To optimalize
curcumin extract in tenzulawak's rhizome, a proper, effective, and efficient extraction
method is required to isolate curcumin in a great amount in ternulawak's rhizome.
In this research, tenzulawak was extracted using sonication method with ethanol
and was conducted with three various variables: time (15, 30, and 45 minutes),
temperature (35, 45, and 55 OC), and solvent ratio (15, 1:7, and 1:9). The extract was
concentrated with rotary evaporator at 40 "C and 60 rpm, then its curcumin content was
measured. MODDE 5 showed that the optimum curcumin content in temulmvak's
rhizome occured at 55 OC, with solvent ratio of 1:5, and time extraction of 30 minutes
with the result of 3.9125%. The validation result of curcumin content in sernulawak
ethanol extract was measured using visible spektrophotometer. It showed the result of
3.7969%.
