5.3 Significance of Research

The significance in this research is mainly to increase flexibility and adaptability of the vision system in order to accommodate changes. A different point of view was exploited especially in automobile industry for windscreen car gluing process. First contribution in this research is by applying shape based matching SBM application with additional of segmentation step in providing better image quality. With better image presented, it wills results to higher recognition rate based on the training image template. This algorithm used in both Defect Shape Matching DSM and Defect Inspection Monitoring DIM for better improvements in detecting objects also in classification of defect’s types. Second contribution is developed based on the system requirement that needs information in 3D coordination. By referring to Teck et al., 2010, introducing 3D inspection by using two cameras in vision system is all new dimension in vision technologies. By integrating the idea with mathematical equation of straight line will creating new idea in generate 3D transformation of x, y and z coordinates. The idea needs the data on top camera x and y coordinates and front camera x and z coordinates before combining it to identify the z coordinates of the image. From that, the Multiplication Factor is identified that can directly generate z coordinate based on single 2D image. Last but not least, the introduction of Correction of Defects CoD provides more flexibility in the system. It offers to alter the defects occur in order to ensure that rejected product still can be produces as quality product. This correction can be done twice a time 131 where the second times will corrected the remaining defects occur after the 1 st CoD. Each CoD integrate with inspection system to identify the effectiveness of the system by considering each defects occur after the process. Potential application can be described based on the results mostly for detecting defects in preventing the system from producing low quality products. One of them is gluing inspection for installing car windscreen in automation industry. Human vision is still being used in detecting defects; human easily get distracted with the surroundings and it will result inaccurate detection. By applying automation inspection will result in high efficiency and accuracy in detecting defects also able to work nonstop.
