OCE ASTUTI. Effects of Salinity on Survival, Growth, and Haemolymph
Osmolality in larval to megalopa stage of Swimming Crab Portunus
pelagicus. Under Supervision by EDDY SUPRIYONO and ETTY RLANI.

Saliniw is the important factor for the survival, growth, and
haemolynph osmolality of swimming crab (Porturns Pelagicus), especially in
the larval stage (zoeal-zoea4) to megdopa. The objective of this research is
to determine the optimum salinity for survival, growth, and haemoljnzph
osmolality in larval to megalopa stage of swimming crab Portunus pelagicus.
The experiment was conducted in three stages, (I) The effect of salinity
on sunival of larval to megalopa stage, (2) The effect of salinity on growth of

larval to megalopa stage, (3) The effect of salinify on haemolymph osmolality
of larval to meg~ziopastage. The quality of medizim was kepi in opfimzrm
range: temperature 28 - 31" C, dissolved oxygen 4,01- 5,98pptn, andpH 7,4.
Isoosmotic range was calczrlated based on ihe regression between
haemolymph osmolality and nzedium osmolality at the points where
haemolymph osmolality was equal to the medium osmolality.
The experiment was conducted with four treatments, in which eveiy
treatment has dzrerent salinity, 23, 28, 33, and 38 ppt, with three replicates
each. Data analysis was conducted with SPSS statistical program version 12.
Analvsis of Variance (ANOVA) with Duncan post hoc test were used to
determine signijkant drfferences between survival, growth, and haetnolymph
osmolality in 23, 28, 33, and 38ppt. All signifcant test were at P
