71 The same formula to count the percentage of students’ achievement in prepositions at was used to count the percentage of students’ achievement in prepositions in. The percentage of students’ achievement in preposition in was 60.1. This percentage revealed that the students’ ability in using preposition in was sufficient. Although it reached the minimum standard of mastery, the percentage of students’ achievement in this preposition was also still far from good quality. It means that the students still need to improve their mastery of this preposition.

e. Students’ Mastery of Preposition on Indicating Place

In this part, the researcher presents the students’ mastery of preposition on indicating place based on the test results. The illustration of students’ errors in using preposition on indicating place could be seen in Table 4.11. There were fourteen students 23 who made error in this item and there were forty seven students 77 who answered this item correctly. It means that most of the students who took this test did not have problem in using preposition on indicating place, which was translated from Indonesian into English. In Part 1, the test items investigating preposition on indicating place that were problematic to the students fell on items numbers 12, 21, and 27. There were forty nine students 80.3 who made error in answering item number 12, fifty two students 85.3 who made error in answering item number 21, and there were forty four students 72.1 who made error in answering item number 27. Therefore, number 21 became the most difficult number among the test items investigating preposition on indicating place for most of the students. Most of the students who became the respondents of this test had made errors in those three items. To answer item number 12, the students tended to choose preposition at, whereas to answer item numbers 21 and 27, the students tended to choose preposition in. Meanwhile, the test items investigating preposition on indicating place that were considered easy to the students, fell on items numbers 9 and 18. There were fifteen students 24.6 who failed to answer item number 9. Meanwhile, in item number 18, there were only six students 9.8 who failed to answer this item. It means that among the whole items investigating preposition on indicating place, item number 18 was the easiest item for the students who took the test.
