1. Why was it developed?
What gap does it address?
» To collect data from surveys
taken in communities,
using an easier format than
paper forms.
» By capturing data electroni-
cally in any device, the
information is taken in digital
form, which means there is
higher accuracy, more
data is collected, and it
is easier and quicker to
process and analyze.
» Because it has a mapping
component, the app helps to
visualize a point in the map
where the surveyor is.
» This brings another
dimension to the community
and provides immediate
feedback to them.
» To strengthen the REDD+
process with communities,
the government and the private
sector.
» To gather all REDD+ related
data to increase transparency in
the REDD+ process.
» To enhance participation of
communities that are
non-literate. » Feasible and
usable for communities.
» To gather good-quality
data in the ield in a short
amount of time and in an
eficient way that would
eliminate surveyor and
time-of-day bias.
» Data is readily available for
assessment and validation
as recordings remain contrary
to surveyors in the ield.
» Interacts with the surveyor in
real time indicating
where it needs to collect data.
» Helps validate whether a
polygon is or is not a false alert.
» It is more a mechanism
process for getting people
to share their local knowledge
and for capturing local
spatial knowledge.
» Drawing helps report
knowledge that is usually
transmitted verbally.
