ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Alhamdulilah and thanks to God after one year I spent my time to finish my
PSM project, I have completed my project successfully. I would like to extend my
deepest thanks to my PSM project supervisor Mr. Gao Chin Kim for this great idea
and give a lot of guidance for me to complete my PSM project. He was spending
more time to serve as technical editors. He provided valuable comments and insights
that vastly improved my work. He always give me a chance to learning and always
want me to do the best for my project. He is a capable person with analytical minds
and great experiences in a LabVIEW field.

I also would like to thank to all KUTKM staff including lectures and
technicians of giving a chance to finish my PSM project, always support me from
behind and helps me to finish my PSM project.

Last but not least, I would like to thank those who are not mention here but
have directly or indirectly helping and guiding me towards completing my PSM
project, your efforts and time I am appreciated.

Finally, I would like to send my special thank to my family because always
support me from behind and always give me exhortation to protect and to make me a
strong man today. Thank you so much my mom and my father.

ABSTRACT

The project of"A VIrtual Instrumentation System for Electric Machines Laboratory"
contains two parts which is hardware development and software development. This
project consists of synchronous generator and DC motor as the prime mover. Signal
conditioning system is used to obtain the suitable output to be connected to the input
of the data acquisition card. LabVIEW software is used to program and display the
output virtually on the computer. In this project, virtual instrument is used to measure
the output RMS voltage, frequency and phase sequences from synchronous generator
and compare with 1NB supply. The idea is to synchronize the output power
generated from synchronous generator to the 1NB main. In real world the traditional
way to analyze synchronous generator voltage are using the instruments like
voltmeter to measure the voltage and oscilloscope to see the plot of DC machine
voltage. But the new way of virtual instrument can be used to analyze the
synchronous generator output in easy way. For easy understanding, virtual
instruments are user defined and are programmable whereas traditional instruments
have fixed functionality and are hardware controlled. A data acquisition board

(DAQ) plugged into the computer bus allows the instrumentation in combination
with the capabilities of the computer along with signal conditioning hardware. The
board configuration setup software and the LabVIEW software form the software
tools.
