ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

First of all, I would like to thanks God almighty who has been giving me everything to
accomplish this thesis: Patience, health, wisdom, and blessing. Without all these things, I can’t
finish this thesis while it is a condition in order to fulfill of the requirements for the Bachelor
degree from Physics Department, State University of Medan.
I would like to express the sincere gratitude to the Dean of Faculty of Mathematics and
Science State University of Medan: Prof. Drs. Motlan, M.Sc, Ph.D and also as my examiner, I
would like to thanks my great Supervisor, Prof. Dr. Sahyar,MS,MM for guiding me and giving
his precious time, and also great ideas that enable me to complete this thesis. I also want to
convey my sincere gratitude to my academic supervisor, DR. Drs. Ridwan Abd.Sani, M.Si and
my entire examinor: Alkafi Maas Siregar,M.Si and Drs.Makmur Sirait,M.Si. They have given
me many contribute in preparing this thesis well. Beside it, I also want to convey great thanks to
the principal of SMAN I Berastagi, Alberto colia, M.Pd and to Physics teacher there, K. br
Sembiring,S.Si, thanks a lot for making it easy and friendly.
I want to convey a great thank you to all of lecturers for their great contribution in
sharing knowledge and advice during my academic years. I could not complete this thesis well

without their good contribution and ideas.
I would like to express thanks to my beloved parent: R. Ginting and F. Sitorus (the
deceased) who have been giving me encouragement, Motivation, and all of support that I need in
whole of my life. I myself realize that they have much love to give to me and I cannot pay for it.
Then I would like to thanks to my brother and sister: Andrew Valentino Ginting and Tria Puspita
Dewi Ginting. Beside it I won’t forget my friends in my boarding house ‘KOST 121’: Fenny
Sitorus, Dewi Sihotang, Juniati Sembiring, Kak Natalia Girsang, Santi Manalu, and Lisna
Lingga, they are great boarding house members of me and surely my second family here. Thanks
for make me smile while I can’t, all of you are my friends to laugh, to cry, and to share. Believe
me, it means everything. Thanks to b’Rambo that have taught me when I don’t understand about
my research, you give me your spare time to discuss. Thanks to Ebi “tempat
penitipan/peminjaman barang” without you I can’t follow this final examination, hehehe. Thanks
to Reslina and Lia that want to accompany me during the research. Thanks to my friends in my
small group, Rosmala, Julinton, Laurent (also as my classmate) and kak Nova that want to pray

v
for me. Also thanks to my Eklesia Choir that give me place to grow up. Last but not least, I want
to express sincere gratitude to my special one: MJ.Tampubolon for giving me support,
compassion, care, ideas, and also reference to complete this thesis.

ABSTRACT
This research is purpose to know the differences of students’ learning outcomes by

using Quantum Learning and Direct Instruction in subtopics Electromagnetic Wave in Physics of
first grade of SMA Negeri 1 Berastagi academic year 2011/2012.
This research included to the quasi experiment. The population in this research is all of
classes in first grade (X) semester II SMA Negeri 1 Academic Year 2010/2012, this population is
eight classes in amount. The sample in this research is class X – 7 and class X – 8 (two classes
are selected of eight classes). Kind of sampling that is applied in this research is simple random
sampling. Instruments that used as learning result test namely objective test as big as 20 items
that contains of five options and already valid.
From the research obtained the average of pretest in experiment class is 28.57 with
standard deviation is 6.55 and average of pretest in control class is 24.05 with standard deviation
is 9.30. Calculation of posttest average in experiment class is 74.76 and control class is 66.19.
Data already tested is normal distribution and homogeny. To do hypothesis test used with t two
parties obtained tcalculate = 3.15 and ttable = 2.02. From the research also obtained the average of
learning activities on the whole meeting in experiment class is 80.66% and include into good
category. While the average of learning activities on the whole meeting in control class is
65.18% and include to the good enough category. This case means there are differences of
students’ learning outcomes by using Quantum Learning and Conventional in subtopics
electromagnetic wave in physics of first grade of SMA Negeri 1 Berastagi Academic Year
2011/2012.
