ABSTRACT
Esti Rahmawati. 2015. The Process of Guiding Tourists in Ngayogyakarta
Hadiningrat Palace. English Diploma Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences,
SebelasMaret University.
This final project was written based on the job training as a tour guide
conducted in Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Palace on March 22th until April
20th2015. The purposes of this final project are to describe the roles of a tour
guide, to explain the process of guiding, to identify the problems faced by me,
Tepas Keprajuritan, and the tourist along with the solutions.
There are five roles of tour guides, they are informer, tour guide,
photographer, promotion agent, and public relation officer. The process of guiding
activity was greeting, introducing, explaining the function of each building, and
suggesting the tourists to visit other tourist attractions.
There are several problems. The first is my problem as a tour guide, the
second is Tepas Kerajuritan’s problems in managing their tour guides, and the last
is tourist’s problems during their visit at the palace. My problems as a tour guide
are handling the tourists who can not speak English, pronouncing Javanese terms,
and answering the tourists’s questions. My solution was telling my supervisor to
handle the tourists who can not speak English, repeating the Javanese terms, and
answering the tourist questions as well as possible. Tepas Keprajuritan’s problem
were the tour guide did not really guide the tourists and the tour guide did guiding
activity outside the palace. To overcome this problems, Tepas Keprajuritan gave
explanation and emphasized that their duty was guiding the tourists at the palace
area. The tourist’s problems were the difficulties in understanding Javanese terms,
and finding certain tourist attractions. Their solution was asking the Javanese
terms to the tour guide and asking the location of certain tourist attractions to the
tour guide in the information section.
