Abst r a ct :
Andrographis paniculat a NEES has been ext ensively used in t r adit ional m edicine and helps against
fever, dysent ery, diar rhoea, inflam m at ion, and sore t hroat . Andr ographolide, t he m ain com ponent
of t his plant was ext r act ed from t he leaves w it h super crit ical car bon dioxide ext ract or at 40 ยบ C and
100 bar. The effect of supercrit ical solvent flow rat e ( ranging from 0.5 t o 4 m L/ m in) on t he ext ract
yield and select ivit y w as st udied. The ext r act yield incr eased wit h solvent flow rat e. However
furt her increase of solvent flow rat e decreased t he t ot al yield. This m ay due t o int rapart icle
diffusion resist ance effect in t he ext ract ion process. The opt im um solvent flow rat e was 2m L/ m in.
