PEMBUATAN DAN KARAKTERISASI KERAMIK BERPORI DENGAN
BAHAN BAKU KAOLIN, ALUMINA, DEBU VULKANIK GUNUNG
SINABUNG DAN KARBON AKTIF

ABSTRAK

Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang pembuatan keramik. Keramik dibuat dengan
bahan dasar kaolin, alumina, debu vulkanik gunung Sinabung dan karbon aktif.
Metode yang digunakan adalah dye pressing, perbandingan kaolin dan alumina
(4:1) sebagai variabel tetap. Komposisi sebagai berikut (50:50:0), (50:45:5),
(50:40:10), (50:35:15) dan (50:30:20). Karakterisasi keramik berpori yang telah
diuji yaitu densitas 1,57-2,12gr/cm3; porositas 12,19-31,24%; susut massa 7,8626,82%; susut bakar 14,75-20,21%; kuat tekan 8,63-38,40 MPa; kekerasan 39,3287,14 MPa..

MANUFACTURING AND CHARACTERISTIC POROUS CERAMIC
WITH KAOLIN, ALUMINA, SINABUNG VOLCANIC ASH AND
ACTIVATED CARBON


ABSTRACT

It was done the research about manufacturing porous ceramics. The ceramics were
manufactured with basic materials such as Kaolin, Alumina, Sinabung volcanic
ash and activated carbon. The method that was used was dye pressing by the
comparison of Kaolin and Alumina ratio (4:1) as control variable. The
compositions as follows (50:50:0), (50:45:5), (50:40:10), (50:35:15), and
(50:30:20).. The characterization of porous ceramics that had been examined as
follows density 1,57-2,12 gr/cm3; porosity 12,19-31,24%; mass loss 7,86-26,82%;
ignition loss 14,75-20,21%; compressive strength 8,63-38,40 MPa; hardness
39,32-87,14 MPa.
