      Key words: Writing Ability, News Item Text and News Video Writing is a skill to deliver our thought, ideas, and experiences to others.

      Writing is one skill that is difficult to learn. News item text is factual text which informs readers about events of the day which are considered newsworthy or important. Some of the students in SMA N 2 Bae Kudus had difficulties in getting and developing the ideas. Writing needs specialized skills on how to get ideas and express them. And the writing ability of students is not being achieved yet. Most of students got score under KKM (Passing Grade) or the score was low. It is proved by the percentage of students writing score; only 30 % of students get high score and 70 % gets score under passing grade, it is 76 in English and writing. The writer assumes that using good technique or using media can solve the problem. For the reason above, the writer is inspired to apply News Video as media in teaching writing.

      The purpose of this research is to describe there is a significant difference between the writing ability of news item text of the Tenth Grade Students of SMA N 2 Bae Kudus in academic year 2013/2014 before and after being taught by Using News video as media.

      In this research the writer used a quasi experimental research design. There are two variables; the use of News Video as independent variable and the writing ability of news item text of the tenth grade students of SMA N 2 Bae Kudus in academic year 2013/2014 as dependent variable. The writer determined tenth grade students of SMA N 2 Bae Kudus in academic year 2013/2014 as the population. The writer took samples in X5 as class of experiment.

      After conducting the treatment of the writing ability of news item text of the tenth grade students of SMA N 2 Bae Kudus taught by using News Video in academic year 2013/2014, the result of the experiment can be seen that the calculation of t-test, with the level of significance 5%, the Degree of Freedom (Df) is 31, and t-table (t ) ± 2.042, the t- obtained (t ) 5.06. So, the test statistic falls into

      the critical region. It means that the Null Hypothesis (H ) is rejected and the Alternative Hypothesis (H a ) is confirmed. The writing ability of news item text of the tenth grade students of SMA N 2 Bae Kudus after being taught by using News Video in academi c year 2013/2014 is “good”. It is showed by the mean of 76.12 and the standard deviation of 6.57. It is higher than the mean of the writing ability of news item text of the tenth grade students of SMA N 2 Bae Kudus before being taught by using News Video in academic year 2013/2014 which the mean 69.65 and standard deviation is 6.94. It is categorized as “sufficient”.

      Based on the research result above, the writer concludes that News Video is effective to be used in teaching writing of the tenth grade students of SMA N 2 Bae Kudus in academic year 2013/2014. For the teacher and the other researcher, News Video can be useful for teaching learning especially as media in teaching writing especially writing news item text.

      Menulis adalah keterampilan untuk menyampaikan pemikiran kita, ide, dan pengalaman kita kepada orang lain. Menulis merupakan satu keterampilan yang paling sulit dipelajari. Teks berita adalah teks yang mengandung fakta yang memberitahu pembaca tentang kejadian yang patut diberitakan atau penting. Beberapa siswa kelas X SMA N 2 Bae Kudus kesulitan menerima dan mengembangkan ide menjadi kalimat yang benar di dalam bahasa tulisan. Menulis membutuhkan beberapa keterampilan dalam menemukan ide dan mengungkapkan ide. Dan kemampuan menulis oleh siswa belum tercapai baik. Hal ini bisa dilihat dari prosentase hasil belajar siswa, hanya 30% siswa yang memperoleh nilai tinggi dan 70% siswa memperoleh nilai di bawah KKM dalam menulis. Penulis berasumsi bahwa menggunakan teknik ataupun media yang bagus dapat menyelesaikan masalah tersebut. Oleh karena itu, penulis ingin mengaplikasikan video berita sebagai media dalam pengajaran menulis khususnya menulis teks berita.

      Tujuan dari penelitian ini ialah untuk menjelaskan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan menulis teks berita siswa kelas X SMA N 2 Bae Kudus sebelum dan setelah diajar menggunakan video berita tahun ajaran 2013/2014.

      Dalam penelitian ini, penulis menggunakan design penelitian quasi experimental. Terdapat dua variable; Video berita sebagai variabel bebas dan kemampuan menulis teks berita siswa kelas X SMA N 2 Bae Kudus tahun jaran 2013/2014 sebagai variabel terikat. Penulis menentukan siswa kelas X SMA N 2 Bae Kudus tahun ajaran 2013/2014 sebagai populasi. Penulis menggambil kelas X5 sebagai sample penelitian.

      Setelah selesai melakukan pengajaran dalam kemampuan menulis teks berita dari siswa kelas X SMA N 2 Bae Kudus menggunakan video berita tahun ajaran 2013/21014, hasil dari penelitian dapat dilihat dalam perhitungan t-test dengan tingkat keabsahan 5%, degree of freedom (Df) 31, dan t-tatble ± 2,042, t-obtained (t ) 5,06. Jadi, percobaan statistik jatuh di daerah kritis. Dari data diatas dapat disimpulkan bahwa hipotesis nol ditolak dan hipotesis pilihan diterima. Kemampuan menulis siswa teks berita kelas X SMA N 2 Bae Kudus setelah diajar menggunakan video berita tahun ajaran 2013/2014 dikategorikan bagus. Hal ini ditunjukkan oleh rata

    • – rata yaitu 76.12 dan dengan standar deviasi 6.57. Data tersebut lebih tinggi dari rata
    • – rata kemampuan menulis teks berita siswa kelas X SMA N 2 Bae Kudus sebelum diajar menggunakan video berita tahun ajaran 2013/2104 yaitu 69.65 dan standar deviasi 6.94. Dan hasil tersebut dikategorikan cukup.

      Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diatas, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa video berita efektif untuk digunakan dalam pengajaran menulis teks berita siswa kelas X SMA N 2 Bae Kudus tahun ajaran 2013/2104. Bagi guru dan peneliti lainnya, video berita dapat digunakan untuk belajar mengajar khususnya sebagai media dalam pengajaran menulis.
