JOHN LOCKE’S CAREER
John Locke is well known self-published writer who sold one million eBooks.
It is his best renowned achievement. He is one of only eight authors, who have sold
one million eBooks. He releases his novels as eBooks via Amazon‟s Kindle Direct
Publishing. Artwork and design of the books is done by Telemachus Press. Since he
began publishing in 2010, Locke keeps his reputation as an author of the bestsellers.
He has sold more than two million eBooks! Most of his bestsellers are from Donovan
Creed series. His success provoked interest of many different people. How could he
able to sell so many books? What he think about marketing in book selling business?
Author decided to answer for these questions in his book titled “How I Sold One
Million eBooks in Five Months”. In this work, Locke uses the term “Loyalty
Transference” to describe the act of transferring a reader‟s loyalty from one concept
or idea to another. He was smart using the social media and blogging and he created
large amounts of publicity through his core group of loyal readers, around 100,000 by
his estimate. Noticeable, that John Locke never aimed to make a good publishing
contract with traditional publishers, he worked out a mass-market paperback
distribution agreement with Simon & Schuster, who controlled design, content and
pricing. Those true partners could sell physical copies of his novels at large retailers.
Publisher Simon & Schuster was founded in the early 1920s by Richard Simon and
Lincoln “Max” Schuster. In 1924, it published the first collection of crossword

puzzles. Nowadays the company Simon & Schuster is a division of CBS (Columbia

Broadcasting System Corporation). This is one of the four largest English-language
publishers, with Random House, Penguin, Harper Collins. In the current period,
Simon & Schuster published two thousand titles annually! All books of John Locke
contain dark and depressive destructive feelings, which reflect a dark side of the soul
of typical American people of the medium classes and of the low class audience. The
feelings of instability, jealous and cruelty are very common in a greedy capitalist
society with gangsters, bandits, prostitutes and narcotics. Peoples in USA downtowns
are struggling for quick easy money, which lead them to make a crime. It leads them
to become mad and behave cruel. Many blood, murders, kidnappings, police and
horrors are normal attributes of contemporary American literature and films. John is a
good businessman and he knows well, what the clients of his country want. He feels
the demand in the book market. He knows that most of his readers - are from the
darkest places such as New York's Bronx. Most of them are not educated and unable
to earn an honest way. Cruelty, heartlessness, greed, greed and crimes are reign there.
Murderers and robbers - are the main characters of this American world. Many young

people in USA have a passion for first-class hotels, fancy restaurants, and expensive
women. They want all these things, they don‟t have moral and religious principles
and they easy can decide to become professional killers or drug dealers. The more
blood, assassins, cruel intrigues would be in the text of book, the more American
readers would be interested in reading it. John Locke understands this is very good
and he makes a perfect marketing idea. Locke‟s books have plenty of narrative push,
but little true suspense, as nothing significant is at stake.

It is well known, that every ten seconds, twenty-four hours a day, a John
Locke‟s novel is downloaded somewhere in the world! Authors, book reviewers,
bloggers and fans across the globe agree: John Locke is one of the most creative
contemporary talents in America today. But it is obviously, that he is a genius
businessmen, he know, how to make a perfect marketing scheme, but his literature is
not true literature, his language is very poor and his themes very concise and similar
with depressive reality of American society today. His works have intricate and
sophisticated storylines, but they don't have humanistic ideas, moral and ideological
values for high spiritual and intelligent society and humanity.
