ABSTRACT

Muhammad Fahmi Solehan, 2014. The Activities of English Teaching and
Learning to the Students of 5th Grade of SDN Wonosaren 2 Surakarta. English
Diploma Program, Faculty of Letter and Fine Arts, Sebelas Maret University.
This final project is written based on the job training which has been done from
February to March, 2013. The objectives of this final project report are to describe
the activities of English teaching and learning to the students of fifth grade of SDN
Wonosaren 2 Surakarta, to know the problems of English teaching activities faced by
English teacher and to find out the solutions to solve the problems.
By observing the school, interviewing the teachers and students and directly teaching
at the fifth grade class, the writer could write the final project report completely. The
writer used some procedures in English teaching and learning activity. The activity
included pre-activity, main activity and post-activity. The pre-activity consisted of
greeting and warming up. The main activity involved explanation, and skill practices.
The post-activity involved assessment and ending the lesson.
During the process of English teaching and learning, the writer faced some
difficulties, such as students’ wrong opinion about the English lesson, difficulty in
understanding the material, classroom management, limited time and media used in
teaching English. However, there are some solutions to solve the difficulties: using
pictures, repeating in explaining the material, warning to be silent, managing the time
well and adding more media. From the discussion in this final project report, we can

know the importance of teaching English language to elementary students, because
English is a first foundation for them to prepare to the next stages of education.
