1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of the Study

We often found so many murder cases in Indonesia and also around the world. It happened because the suspect had already planned it at first. That kind of murder is called planning murder, by plan the place and how to get the victim. Some suspect did it by terrorize the victim. Terror and murder often happens at the same time. This kind of cases often happen and always ends with death. We also can find this kind of cases in the novel “Gone Girl”. Even though there are some weird plans that the woman has made but it did not end with murdering or death. The suspect in this novel just want to make the victim feels regret and guilty by giving some clues and create some weird plans.

The writer interested to analysis a novel titled “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn. This novel tells about a woman named Amy Elliot Dunne who is kid book writer which famous under the title “Amazing Amy?”. Amy had been married for 5 years with her husband named Nick Dunne. On their 5th anniversary, Amy has gone. Before she had gone, Amy had already prepared some weird plans and clues for her husband. Amy prepared all those things for more than a year and she just want to make Nick feels guilty and regret. The writer will analyze how Amy did her weird plans in the novel “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn.

Novel is human literature creation. Novel does not, however, present a documentary picture of life. Kennedy (1991: 203) says that novel is a book length story in prose, whose author try to create sense while we read, we experience actual life. The novel is a picture of real life and manner time when it was written.

2. REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE 2.1 Novel

Novels and short stories are two forms of literature that once called fiction. Differences between the novel and short stories are a formality in terms of shape, in terms of story length. A long says hundreds of pages, it cannot be called as ashort story, but more appropriately called a novel. Novel is able to present the development of one character. A complicated events occurring in greater detail. The novel is able to create a complete universe at one complicated. This means that the novel is both easy and more difficult to read when it is compared with the short story.Novel is used to show and express an extra ordinary event that happened to someone. It means that novel is a way for teh writer to find out extra

The word “novel” comes from the Italian, Novella, which means the new staff that small. The novel was originally developed in the region from other forms or narrative nonfiction, such as letters, biographies, and history. But with a shift in society and development time, the novel is not only based on data nonfiction, author of novel can change according to the desired imagination.

From the statement, Novel, that gives you imaginative, is a fictional long prose work that adopted from french and Italy to describe about the element prose. Plot is known as the foundation of a novel or story which the characters and settings are built around. It is meant to organize information and events in a logical manner. When writing the plot of a piece of literature, the author has to be careful that it does not dominate the other parts of the story.

(15)

5

There are five main elements in a plot. The first is the exposition or the introduction. This is known as the beginning of the story where characters and setting are established. The conflict or main problem is introduced as well. The second element of a plot is known as the rising action which occurs when a series of events build up to the conflict. The main characters are established by the time the rising action of a plot occurs and at the same time, events begin to get complicated. It is during this part of a story that excitement, tension or crisis is encountered. The third element of a plot is known as the climax or the main point of the plot. This is the turning point of the story and is meant to be the moment of highest interest and emotion. The reader wonders what is going to happen next. The fourth element of a plot is known as falling action or the winding up of the story. Events and complications begin to resolve and the result of actions of the main characters are put forward. The last element of a plot is the resolution or the conclusion. It is the end of a story and ends with either a happy or a tragic ending.

Peck and Coyle (1984:102) say, “the novel reflects a move away vrom an essentially of religious view of life towards a new internet in the complextion of everyday experience. Most novel are concerned with ordinary people and rheir problems in the societies in which the find themselves.

Based on three quotations that novel in one form of a literary work in which a fictional story in writing or words and have intrinsic and extrinsic elements. The story novel tells the story of human life generally in interacting with the environment and each other.

2.2 Plot

Plot is a literary term defined as the events that make up a story, particularly as they relate to one another in a pattern, in a sequence, through cause and effect, how the reader views the story, or simply by coincidence. A plot "insures that you get your character from point A to point Z". Plot according to Roberts and Jacobs in their book literature (1995;88) said that plot is all the actions or incidents, speeches, thoughts, and observations are linked together to make up an entirety, sometimes called an organic unity. The essence of this unity is the development and resolution of a conflict in hich protagonist, or central character. The plot is interactions of causes and effects as they develop sequentially or chronologically. Plot is stories are made up mostly of actions or incidents that follow each other sequentially. Finding a sequential or narrative order, however, is only the first step toward the more important consideration. The plot is the controls governing the development of the actions. In a well- plotted story , things precede or follow each other not simply because time ticks away, but more importantly because effects follow causes.

Plot is a series of stories. Abrams in Siswanto (2008:159) say, “that the plot is a series of stories that formed by the stage of events that weave a story presented by actors in a story. Goodman (2003:19) says, “The plot important eventstahtaccour in a story, and plot is the series of incidents in the order which they take place. Most of the story, the narrator makes the plot .

Shaw (1972:211) says, “That plot is a plan sheme to accomplish a purpose. In literature, plot refres to argument of events to achieve an intended effect. A plot

(17)

7

is a series of carefully devised and interrelated actions that progresses through a struggle of opposing forces (conflict) to a climax and denouement. A plot is different from story line (the order or events as they accur).

Based on quotation from three critics, that plot is artistic, arrangement of those events. It means the most important element among other elements of fiction because a structure events arising out of conflict. In literature, plot refers to arrangement of events to achieve an intended effect. A plot is a series of carefully devised and interrelated actions that progresses through a struggle of opposing forces (conflict) to a climax.

2.3 Character

Burroway (2003: 98) says, “Character as conflict, Rich characterization can be effectively (and quite consciously) achieved by producing a confict between methods of presentation. A character can be directly revealed to us through appearance, speech, action, and though. If you set one of these methods at ossd with the others, then dramatic tension will be produced.

William whitla (2010:161) says, “Character in the novel is conventionally discussed in terms of exposition and dialog. Characters can also be, in foster’s words, either flat or one-dimensional, having a simple function, or round, with complexity built up through multiple players of description and action.”

Robert and Jacobs (1993:131) say, “in fiction, a character may be defined as a verbal representation of a human being. Through action, speech, description, and commentary, authors prtay characters who are worth caring about, rooting,

(18)

8

for, and even loving, although there also characters you may laugh at, dislike, or even hate.

Round characteris a major character in a work of fiction who encounters conflict and is changed by it. Round characters tend to be more fully developed and described than flat, or static, characters. If you think of the characters you most love in fiction, they probably seem as real to you as people you know in real life. This is a good sign that they are round characters. A writer employs a number of tools or elements to develop a character, making him or her round, including description and dialogue.

Flat character is a minor character in a work of fiction who does not undergo substantial change or growth in the course of a story. Also referred to as "two-dimensional characters" or "static characters," flat characters play a supporting role to the main character, which as a rule should be round. Though we don't generally strive to write flat characters, they are often necessary in a story, along with round characters.

From the statement, Character is a person who is responsible for the thoughts and action within a story. And he or she can learn and become better for experience or maybe lose point and no change.

Characterizations is the way the author displays the characters in the story so that can know the character or nature of the figures . Characterizations can be described through dialogue between characters, another character in response to the main character , or thoughts of characters . Through characterizations , it is known that the character is a good , evil , or responsible

(19)

9

2.4 Setting

Setting is background of story that describes palce, time, and atmosphere in a novel . Abrams in Siswanto (2008:173) say, “Setting is general locale, historical time, and social circumstance in every episode or part of place. But Hamalian in Siswanto (2008:149) say, “that setting in fiction not just place, time, event teh atmosphere and objects in a particular environment, but also can be teh atmosphere related attitudes, way thinking, and lifestyle of a community in response to a particular problem.

Gwynn (2002:17) says, “Setting is simply the time and the place of a story, and in most cases the detail of descriptions are given to the reader directly by the narrator. Description to place important to give the impression to the readers and make them knows where the story takes a place. From the study of the setting would be known the extent of conformity and correlation between behavior and temprement with community leaders, social situation , and opinion of society.

Based on three quotatitions, setting means the time, place, and social reality within which a story takes place. We have no understand where we are, in which period of time in which society and at which leven in that society if we are to interpet correctly the other element in the story.

3. THE ANALYSIS 3.1 Scerwy Plans Amy’s in Real Life

The meaning of “Screwy” is insane, screwy, weird and frantic. In this novel the meaning of screwy which was used is peculiar. It was because in this novel, the main character has so many peculiarities in her-self. She wanted to make screwy plans in order to make her husband felt regret. “Screwy” has the exact meaning for the main character in this novel “Gone Girl” and the writer used “screwy” for the title of this paper

Basically an approach consist of two types. They are the intrinsic approach

and extrinsic approach. The intrinsic approach was originally written by Rene Wellek and Austin Warren in their book “Theory of Literature”. Rene Wellek introduced his intrinsic approach, which essentially is a study of literary work based on analyzing the internal elements that build that work. According to Wellek (1962:332) The natural on sensible starting point for work in literary scholarship is the interpretation and analysis of the works of literary themselves. After all, only the works themselves justify all aour interest in the life of an author, in his social environment, and the whole process of literature. Wellek’s opinion is that the study of literature naturally needs to be started from the analysis of the literary work itself because then it would enable us to identify he many aspects that built that work. Wellek further explained by introducing elements that from the foundation of a literary work, plot, setting, theme, character, point of view, and style. By analyzing these elements, a student could comprehend the work by figuring out how the story flows, where the story is set,

(21)

11

how the characters act and think. Although so many of elements of novel, the writer just picks three of that all. Three elements discussed are plot, setting and theme. Three of elements enough describe clear detail about a short happy moment of Charlie’s life. Element of plot, setting and theme summarized at describe about character in the same time. Intrinsic approach takes part from the literary work itself. Intrinsic approach emphasizes the analysis inter text by describing the elements of the prose that explained before. Intrinsic approach applied by the writer in order to show the elements of the novel. Parts of elements of the prose are characters, plot setting, theme, and point of view. This is the research uses those elements of prose because those elements are related. Wellek and Warren (1977:139) in their book “Theory of Literature” sait that intrinsic approach are being introduced based on a survey of the wider range of forms in modern literature. They also stated that the main part of intrinsic approach is based on the text of literary works itself by doing an interpretation and analysis of it (1977:139). While definition od extrinsic approach which was originally written by Rene Wellek and Austin Warren in their book “Theory of Literature” too. Rene Wellek introduced his extrinsic approach such as biography, psychology, social milieu, ideas, and other arts. This is opposed elements intrinsic to a study work, which explored in section. According to Wellek and Warren, Works may indeed reflect the author’s experience, but they must also reflect an author’s hopes and dreams, or literary tradition and convention and not a document for biography.

Amy Elliot is a book author. She had married with Nick for 5 years. She was also the author of a well-known children book entitled “Amazing Amy”.

(22)

12

Many people loved and amazed with this book which made this book became really famous in New York. Amy was 31years old. She had a brown straight hair and she also had an ideal and sexy body. Amy grew up in New York. She was taken care of by her father and mother named Rand and Margareth Dunne. There, Amy did not have many friends. Amy was a funny, smart and had a great personality. Amy maybe seemed like a good girl but she was a master of manipulator that expert in mind game. Amy included to immoral category in her character. She had a bad personality and not enviable because Amy was a vengeful.

Amy will start to think a different story, a better story which will destroy Nick because he had done this to Amy. A story which will return the perfection to Amy and make Amy as a hero which without disabilities and be proud. It can be seen in this quotation:

“Because everyone loves the Dead Girl”. (Flynn:2014:263)

Amy maybe a little insane because Amy had entrapped her husband by doing an extra ordinary lie which never done by any other woman. Nick had to get the lesson. It can be seen in this quotation:

“So I may have gone a bit mad. I do know that framing your husband for your murder is beyond the pale of what an average woman might do. (Flynn:2014:264)

From her 152 entries, Amy used 9 of her entries in order to create her plan which will she did:

1) Item: 22, cut myself have been on the list a long time.

2)Item: 30, carefully dress wound, ensuring no blood has dripped where it shouln’t be present

(23)

13 3) Item: 18, stage the living room, tip ottoman.

4) Item: 12 wrap the first clue in its box and tuck it just out of the way so. The police will find before dazed husband thinks to look for it.

5)Item: 32, change into generic clothes, tuck hair in hat, climb down the bank of the river

6) Item: 29 say goodbye to bleecker. Smell his little stinky cat breath one last time.

7) Item: 33, fet the fuck out of dodge. 8) Item: 34, change look.

9) Item: 3, change the code alarm.

It started form item: 22, hurt her own self, Amy hurt her herself by using kitchen knife and cutter, she sliced her upper hand. While she sliced her hand, she bit a cloth so that she would not scream because of the pain. A long scratch had been made by her, it was not an ordinary scratch but it had already touched the muscle. Amy lost so much blood. Even though she lost so much blood, it did not make her collapse. Amy did that while sitting on the kitchen floor and she waited for ten minutes and let her blood dripped and created a well-blood puddle. When Nick came home, he would see a blood stain which already dry so the police can find her. As far as Nick knew, Amy was really scared with blood and it was Amy’s lie. It can be seen in this quotation:

“No, Im’m not, not a bit, but for the past year I’ve been saying I am. I told Nick probably half a dozen times how afraid I am of blood, and when he said, ‘ I don’t remember you being so afraid of blood, ‘ I’ve told you, I’ve told you so many times”. (Flynn:2014:247)

(24)

14

No.30: Amy treated her wound very carefully. Amy had to check the bloodstain which showed up on inappropriate place. Amy also kept the exhibit very carefully. She wrapped the cutter which she used to hurt herself and kept it in a bag which will be thrown away later. Amy did not want all of her plan ruined because of her mistake. It can be seen in this quotation:

“So the self-mutilation was worth it. Still, hours later, yhe slice burns under my sleeves, under the tourniquet . carefully dress wound, ensuring no blood has dripped where it shouldn’t be present. Wrap box cutter and tuck away in pocket for later disposal”. (Flynn:2014:248)

No.18: Amy arranged the family room or the seats. She made the room looked messy by turning the chairs and tables upside down, breaking the table glass until the room was full of the shard of glass. It was done in order to make the police presumed that there was a fight. Amy made it when Nick went to the bar and made his sister. It can be seen in this quotation:

“I swerved into the living room, and pulled up short. The carpet glinted with shards of glass, the coffee tableshattered. End tables were on their sides, books slid across the floor like a card trick. Even the heavy antique ottoman was belly-up, its four tiny feet in the air like something dead”. (Flynn:2014:27)

No.12: Amy wrapped the first exhibit and had not thrown it away yet. Amy put it in a box and kept the box in a secret place and all the exhibit were kept neatly. So, the police will find it before Nick had a thought for looking for it. Because it had to be a part of police’s entry. It can be seen in this quotation:

“Wrap the first clue in its box and tuck it just out of the way so the police will find it before dazed husband thinks to look for it. It has to be part of the police record”. (Flynn:2014:248)

(25)

15

No.32: Amy changed her clothes into ordinary clothes. Amy changed her appearance and slipped her hair into her hat. She went down to the river bank and walked along the street. Amy did this although she knew that Teveler family was the only neighbor that can see the river but Teveler family was in church that time. So, they would not see what Amy had done. It can been seen in this quotation:

“Change into generic clothes, tuck hair in hat, climb down the banks of the river, and scuttle along the edge, the water lapping inches below, until you reach the edge of the complex. Do this even though you know thr teverers, the only neighbors with a view of the river., will be at church. Do this because you never know”. (Flynn:2014:248)

No.29: Amy said good bye to her lovely cat named “Bleecker” for the last time. Amy also filled its food bowl if only people forgot to feed it. After all of this thing started. Even though Amy never let Bleecker out from her house and Bleecker was already on the stairs outside the house so Mr. Carl, her neighbor who lived in front of her house, can saw Bleecker was outside the house and Nick will be confused with all of those incidents. It can be seen in this quotation:

“Say goodbye to bleecker. Smell his little stinky cat breath one last time . fill his kibble dish in case people forget to feed him once everything starts”. (Flynn:2014:248)

No.33: Amy left her house or went outside the dodge. Amy left her house because she had already prepared all the clues which will be intended to Nick. Not only Nick who can find the clues but also the police. She had already planned it for a year. Amy looked for an interim house where she can live and she bought a car so that she can go anywhere. It can be seen in this quotation:

(26)

16

“Get the fuck out of Dodge” (Flynn:2014:248)

No.34: Changing appearance. Amy change her appearance by cutting and dyeing her hair and changed fashion style so that she would not be known by anyone because the public had already known about her missing. She collected her hair andkept it in a plastic bag. She did not want all of her plan will be ruined. It can be seen in this quotation:

“I wash my hair in the sink, the warm watermakin me sweat, and then back in the car with my bag of hair trash. I put on a pair of outdated wire-rimm glasses and look in the rearview mirror and smile again”. (Flynn:2014:266)

No.3: Amy changed the alarm code two weeks ago before she went missing and registered her secret cell phone number as her first number which can be telephoned. So, if nick set the alarm and he talked to the alarm company, he will be recorded in his father’s house after Amy went missing. This plan was good for Amy. It can be seen in this quotation:

“I changed the code two weeks before I disappeared and listed my secret cell as the first number to call”. (Flynn:2014:274)

Amy told to Dessy that she would not go back to her past with Nick, because Amy thought that Nick would kill her and Amy would never felt comfortable to love with Nick. But Amy felt regret because she was afraid if Nick will be imprisoned. It can be seen in this quotation:

“I cant’t ever go back to my old life, Desi. Nick will kill me. I’ll never feel safe. But I can’t let him go to prison. I just wanted to disappear. I didn’t realize the police would think he did it”. (Flynn:2014:363)

Amy was really remembered all of Nick’s lies. Amy also often wrote about what Nick did was in her diary. Nick often lying yet sometimes he became an honest person and told the truth to Amy. Amy also had to prepare so that she can fight back all of Nick’s lies. It can be seen in this quotation:

“I want to write down every exaggeration, half truth, fib, and bald-facer he utters, so I can gird my fury against him”.(Flynn:2014:389)

The police had been commanded to visit Desi’s house, Amy had murdered Desi. All of Amy’s plans in order to murder Desi were going well. The police also will find evidences that Desi had abducted and raped Amy. It can be seen in this quotation:

“Police have been dispatched to Desi’s home, where they’ll find him naked and drained, a stunned look on his face, a few strand of my hair in his clutches, the bed soaked in blood. The knife I used on him, and on my bonds, will be nearby on the floor where I dropped it”. (Flynn: 2014:417)

Apparently the baby was a part of Amy’s lie. Amy was a great manipulator for Nick. Finally, Nick found out much about Amy’s lies. It can be seen in this quotation:

"The baby was a lie. It was the most desolate part for me. My wife as a murderer was frightening, repulsive, but the baby as a lie was almost impossible to bear”. (Flynn: 2014:434)

Amy still felt hatred toward Nick. It was because Nick still tried to ending their marriage. It can be seen in this quotation:

“I feel a rush of hate toward him, that he’s still trying to wriggle out of our marriage even though I’ve told hum”.(Flynn:2014:440)

Amy will never told Nick about what happened in her life. If Nick went away from Amy’s life, she will ruin Nick’s life and made his life into the worst one. Amy will make Nick felt suffer for what he had done to her. It can be seen in this quotation:

“I won’t divorce you, Nick, I won’t. And I swear to you, if you try to leave, I will devote my life to making your life as awful as I can. And you know I can make it awful”. (Flynn: 201:440)

Amy and Nick have since married a strange way to celebrate the birthday of her marriage that is by making treasure hunt, and now amy started to make the hunt for treasure the must be resolved by Nick. It can be seen in this quotation:

“The other one is considerable more extreme. I have decided I’m not going today”. (Flynn:2014:234)

Amy has been back to Nick, but Nick is still doubt and could not receviceamy back. Amy also need one action to Amy case because of Amy knew Nick can alone would have divorced him about, but amy also trying to rebuild her marriage. It can be seen in this quotation:

“Nick launches into the treasure hunt, how tradition, how I always rememberd hilarious inside jokes, and right now this was all he had left of me, so he had to completethe treasure hunt. It was his mission”.(Flynn:2014:443)

For Amy the only problem is Nick, Amy also happened amy was leaving the evidence and even though as it is possible the police did not fully believe in Amy. It can be seen in this quotation:

“So Nick really the only issue, and soon I’ll return him to my side. I was smart, I left no other envidence. The police may not entirely belive me, but they won’t do anything”. (Flynn: 2014:564)

There were 3 clues in an envelope which addressed to Nick along with the goods which had been provided by Amy. It will make the police suspicious that all those things were in possession of Nick.

The first clue is the part of crime scene so the police will know about the clue and Amy put the word “Working time” on her clue. Logically, the police will go there with or without Nick.

First clue:

It looked like an entertainment for Amy. She did everything in exaggerate way in order to check another million clues which had been spread.

I picture myself as your student, With a teacher so handsome and wise

My mind opens up (not to mention my thighs!) If I were your pupil, there’d be no need for flowers

Maybe just a naughty appointment during your office hours So hurry up, get going, please do

And this time I’ll teach you a thing or two Second clue:

Amy felt really happy after knowing how guilty Nick is after he read all those sweet letters when he was cheating on Amy.

Picture me: I’m crazy about you My future is anything but hazy with you You took me here so I could hear you chat

About your boyhood adventures: crummy jeans and visor hat Screw everyone else, for us they’re all ditched

(30)

Third clue:

All of those peculiar plans went well after Amy went missing for 40 days. Finally, Amy went back to Nick. Nick also knew that Amy had already killed her ex-girlfriend Desi Collins.

Maybe you feel guilty for bringing me here I must admit it felt a bit queer

But it’s not like we had the choice of many a place We made the decision: We made this our space Let’s take our love to this little brown house Gimme some goodwill, you hot lovin’spouse.

This Sub 3.1 explains about 152 Amy’s screwy plans which she made in order to entrap Nick but Amy only used 9 of 152 plans. She did all those plans without following the order of the plans just like she wrote in a paper. Amy started the order from number 22, 30, 18, 12, 32, 29, 20, 34 and the last one is number 3. Her plans were going well after Amy’s missing for 40 days. Finally, Amy came back to Nick and also Nick had already known that Amy had murdered her ex-girlfriend, Desi Collins. Nevertheless, Nick welcomed Amy’s return because she had already told the public that she was pregnant.

3.2 Amy’s Fantasy In Diary

Amy wrote all of her thoughts in a diary. She wrote the diary for a few years and was undetected by Nick. All of Amy’s fantasy about her husband was written in her diary by Amy. She also made the order accord with the date, month and year on all of her written. Amy always thought that Nick would kill her. The diary also will become evidence to the police after Amy’s missing.

Fantasy Story from Amy that she had written in her diary on 15th February 2015, Amy bought a gun for safety. Because Amy thought that Nick will hurt her

(31)

21

one day but she kept telling herself that Nick would not hurt her, and Amy thought that the thing that had been told by Nick’s father was right. It can be seen in this quotation:

“And I thought to myself: Nick’s dad was right about you. You are dumb bitch. Because if you think your husband is going to hurt you, you leave. And yet you can’t leave your h his dead mother. You can’tusband, who’s mourning his dead mother. You can’t. You’d have to be a biblically awful woman to do that, unless something were truly wrong. You’d have to really believe your husband was going to hurt you”. (Flynn:2014:222)

Amy’s fantasy story which consisted in Amy’s diary on 26th June 2012, Amy was pregnant but Amy had already known that somebody beside herself already knew about that thing. Amy felt afraid and she already thought about two things they are she would use the clues as her love letter and Amy needed a gun. It can be seen in this quotation:

“And then someone else besides me knew, and so I was scared. Once I got back home, I had two thoughts. One: Our anniversary is coming next week. I will use the clues as love letters, a beautiful antique wooden cradle waiting at the end. I will convince him we belong together. As a family. Two: I wish I’d been able to get that gun”. (Flynn:2014:230)

Amy’s fantasy story which consisted in Amy’s diary on 26th June 2012, Amy did not want to do abortion because the baby in her stomach was still attain the age of 6 week. Amy felt really lucky to have a husband like Nick, a man who will be the father for her children. But Amy also felt that Nick was not like the man she imagined. It can be seen in this quotation:

“But I may be wrong, I may be very wrong. Because sometimes, the way he looks at me? That sweet boy from yhe beach, man of my dreams, father of my child? I catch him

(32)

22

looking at me with those watchful eyes, the eyes of an insect, pure calculation, and I think: This ,an might kill me”. (Flynn:2014:231)

Amy’s fantasy story which consisted in her diary on 17th August 2011, Amy was worried about Nick’s changing attitude that really sudden and fancy. Amy felt Nick wanted something or wanted to do something and he was being nice just in case if Amy had already known about. And Amy cannot let Nick that way. Amy did not want her marriage got broken. Amy will forget every bad thought of hers about Nick. It can be seen in this quotation:

“I had to write that, I had to let that out. And just seeing it, I know it sounds crazy. Neurotic and insecure and suspicious. I will not let my worst self ruin my marriage. My husband loves me. He loves me and he come back to me and that is why he is treating me so nice. That is the only reason”. (Flynn:2014:194)

In Amy’s diary which written on 17th August 2011, Amy always thought that Nick did not love her anymore. Amy also thought that Nick had another woman. Nick had done many liars about the woman to Amy. Amy really loved Nick but Amy did not feel happy anymore. It can be seen in this quotation:

“Nine days of hearts. In a row. Maybe all he needed to know was how much I loved him and how unhappy I’d become. Maybe he had a change of heart”. (Flynn:2014:192)

Amy thought if Nick will kill her and Amy thought that Nick will roll her body into trash bag and put her in car and took her to a landfills and threw her away. It can be seen in this quotation:

“In real life, if Nick had killed me, I think he would have just rolled my body into a trash bag and driven me to one of the landfills in the sixty-mileradius. Just dispose of me”.

(33)

23

After analyzing 3.2, it wasAmy wrote many things about Nick in her Diary. She started those written neatly and was undetected by Nick. She wrote all of those things in the last few years and Amy was really expert in writing because she was the writer of a well-known book. Her diary also became the evidence for the police in creating those screwy plans. All of the plans in that diary were worked and trusted by police. Amy also used the diary as an evidence to imprison Nick and made him felt guilty. Amy hoped the police would find and read it.

4. CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION 4.1 Conclusion

After doing analysis in chapter 3, it has been proven that Amy had made a list of her screwy plans which aimed to her husband and consisted in the novel “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn. The writer found some conclusion that is Amy did all of those plans in order to made her husband felt guilty. Apparently, the plan had been prepared by Amy since a year before and she wrote her thought into her diary and some her thought was not written but she did it in the real life.

Actually, there were 152 plans total which had been made by Amy. But from the plans list, she only used 9 of the plans. Amy also made 3 clues for Nick so it would look like that Nick was the one who made Amy went missing and murdered. All of the plans which Amy’s thought were worked really well in the real life and got the attention of the public. Police also guessed if Amy was kidnapped and there were also many unpredicted incident which happened in Amy’s life. After analyzing this novel, the writer can ensure that Amy had many lies in her life and she can do everything to make her husband felt guilty.

4.2 Suggestion

After finishing this paper, the writer found a slightly different moral value

because the events in this novel are not well to be emulated and the relationship in the home life should not full of lies. There should no lies and revenges between a couple. A spouse should know each other so that there will no disturbance in home life.

(35)

25

The writer also hope by reading this novel, the readers can enrich their knowledge about English grammar which used in this novel and the writer hope this paper can give a good value for the readers in studying English literature.

APPENDICES A. The Biography of Gillian Flynn

Gillian Flynn was born in Kansas City, Missouri to two community-college professors her mother taught reading; her father, film. Thus she spent an inordinate amount of her youth nosing through books and watching movies. She has happy memories of having A Wrinkle in Time pried from her hands at the dinner table, and also of seeing Alien, Psycho and Bonnie and Clyde at a questionable age (like, seven). It was a good childhood.

In high-school, she worked strange jobs that required her to do things like wrap and unwrap hams, or dress up as a giant yoghurt cone. A yoghurt cone who wore a tuxedo. Why the tuxedo? It was a question that would haunt her for years.

(39)

For college, she headed to the University of Kansas (go Jayhawks), where she received her undergraduate degrees in English and journalism.

After a two-year stint writing about human resources for a trade magazine in California, Flynn moved to Chicago. There she earned her master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University and discovered that she was way too wimpy to make it as a crime reporter.

On the other hand, she was a movie geek with a journalism degree—so she moved to New York City and joined Entertainment Weekly magazine, where she wrote happily for 10 years, visiting film sets around the world (to New Zealand for The Lord of the Rings, to Prague for The Brothers Grimm, to somewhere off the highway in Florida for Jackass: The Movie). During her last four years at EW, Flynn was the TV critic (all-time best TV show: The Wire).

Flynn’s 2006 debut novel, the literary mystery Edgar Award finalist and the winner of two of Britain’s Dagger Awards—the first book ever to win multiple Daggers in one year. Movie rights have been sold.

Flynn’s second novel, the 2009 New York Times bestseller was a New Yorker Reviewers’ Favorite, Weekend TODAY Top Summer Read, Publishers Weekly Best Book of 2009, and Chicago Tribune Favorite Fiction choice. Movie rights have been sold, with Gilles Paquet-Brenner (Sarah’s Key) to direct.

Flynn’s third novel reading this now a twenty-eight countries. She lives in Chicago with her husband, Brett Nolan, their
