Changes to assessment  The syllabus aims have been updated.  There are changes to component weightings in the syllabus: - The assessment weightings of the two components Component 1: Paper 1 and Component 2: Coursework have been changed, so that each component is worth 50 of the qualification. Paper 1 was previously worth 40 and Coursework 60.  The assessment objectives AOs have been changed, to improve clarity and to ensure comparability across other qualifications and fitness for purpose for the future of the qualification. - The previous AO1 has now become AO3 and has been reworded to reflect the assessment of the physical activity. Coursework  Each practical activity will be worth 25 marks.  The list of practical activitiessports has been revised.  All activities will now need to be filmed.  The marking criteria have been reviewed to ensure ongoing validity and reliability. This will be published in the Coursework Guidelines booklet in due course. There are no changes to the skills, knowledge and understanding currently assessed. Changes to Paper 1 The weighting of Paper 1 has been reduced to 60. The duration of Paper 1 has changed to 2 hours 30 minutes to include time for reading. Paper 1 will now be printed at A3 paper size. The structure of Paper 1 has changed.  Sections 1 and 2 have been renamed Sections A and B.  Section A contains one compulsory question with some parts in short-answer question style and less technical drawing, to reflect the reduced component weighting.  Section B contains a reduced choice of questions. Candidates answer two questions chosen from three not four questions. Changes to Paper 2 The component name has changed to ‘Paper 2: Design Project’ and the weighting of Paper 2 has increased to 40. The description of Paper 2 has been revised to clarify that a product as well as a portfolio should be produced. The Paper 2 question options will now be referred to as ‘design situations’ rather than ‘problems’ or ‘themes’. The assessment criteria for Paper 2 have been revised:  to clarify levels of attainment  to make the mark ranges explicit  to explicitly include development and planning skills. Candidates are required to answer all questions.  The answer booklet has been removed and candidates now answer on the question paper.  Paper 2 has been given the title ‘Written’. Changes to assessment objectives AO2 Application has been updated to include mention of the use of numerical information and simple calculations. AO3 Analysis has been updated to include analysis of written and numerical problems relating to a commercial situation to make clear that numerical problems are involved. The weightings of the four assessment objectives AOs have been adjusted slightly.
