Objectives
the end of the semester, students are able to:
comprehend different types of texts (essay, opinion paper, journal articles, reviews)
get familiar with reading strategies to be independent readers
developing reading strategies (identifying authors’ point of view, purpose and tone, intended audience,
summarizing, paraphrasing and synthesizing)
2. Course Description:
This course covers comprehension of academic texts such as essays, opinion paper, journal articles, reviews. The
students are expected to get familiar with reading strategies that include summarizing, paraphrasing and synthesizing)
to be independent readers and apply those strategies.
3. Learning Activities:
Learning activities include discussions on topics
4. Evaluation:
Evaluation will be based on the following components:
1. Class participation
: 10%
2. Midterm Exam
: 20 %
3. Assignments

4. Final Exam

Grading Policy:
A = 85 – 100
B = 76 – 84
C = 60 -75
D = 50 – 59
