EAST ASIAN BUREAU OF ECONOMIC RESEARCH
(EABER)

Downloaded by [Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji] at 20:04 18 January 2016

The East Asian Bureau of Economic Research (EABER) is a forum for highquality economic research focused on issues facing the economies of East Asia.
It comprises researchers and institutes from Japan, China, South Korea, Vietnam,
Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore and
Australia. EABER is supported by the Ministry of Finance, Japan, the Australian
government, through AusAID, and the Australian National University, through
the Crawford School of Economics and Government.
The rapid development of the East Asian economies, the growth of intraregional trade, financial and other economic interaction, and East Asia’s new
role in the global economy all underline the need for access to a vastly increased
range of quality economic analysis on East Asia. Analysis from both inside and
outside government assists policy makers in responding to, and anticipating,
issues confronting the East Asian economy.
EABER provides research support for policy makers, links researchers
throughout the region, and creates venues where researchers and policy makers
can come together to discuss issues vital to economic development in East Asia.
Programs and Institutes
A number of major programs and institutes of economic research have made a
significant contribution to the understanding of economic developments and
their implications for policy over the last few decades. The Future Financial
Arrangements in East Asia project and the Advancing Economic Integration in
East Asia project have contributed to this analysis, developing links between
policy makers and researchers throughout the region.
The East Asian Bureau of Economic Research involves cooperation among the
following leading research institutes in East Asia:
• Australia–Japan Research Centre (AJRC), Australia
• Crawford School of Economics and Government, Australia
• China Centre for Economic Research (CCER), China
• Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM), Vietnam
